    Amazing.

I was having heartattacks. Or so I thought. I kept going to the hosptial. I was fine, but I was dying. That was what I was 6 months ago. Now I am 97% anxiety free. How? Reading this book! I have not had another anxiety attack since reading this book. It's amazing how you think no one else in the world understands what you are going through, then you pick up this book & exactly how you have been feeling, is exactly what is written in black & white. Of course I still get my moments where I start to find myself becoming anxious, but it does not escalade to thinking that I am dying or having a heart attack. I can fight it off, no problem. I dont let anxiety have the best of me anymore. Please, if you are tired of anxiety, give this book a try... It WILL help! It CAN help! You just have to take the first step to want to be anxiety free! =D

Good Advice Marred by Out of Date Information

As the other reviewers here have already stated, Dr. Weekes' techniques for overcoming the physical symptoms of anxiety and panic are quite handy and useful. However, this book came out in 1969 originally, and some of the material is seriously dated. The actual techniques show few signs of wear-and-tear. But the information, particularly in the area of depression, is in many cases just plain wrong, and in ways that could lead to some bad misunderstandings. Although there is material in this book on depression, don't buy this book for that information. If you do suffer from depression, make certain to read more recent material as well.

A great book to educate you and calm you

I was so scared when I began reading this book, but soon I learned I was far from being alone, and that my symptoms weren't as crazy as I thought! I told my Dr. about it and she showed me her worn, ear-marked copy right there on her desk! Read this and get the help you need....life is too short to go on having the anxiety!

This book is a godsend! This book actually explains what's going

This book is a godsend! This book actually explains what's going on in your body that is causing you to feel all these horrible feelings. I started having panic attacks when I was in my early 30's. It happened after I came out of surgery. I had made myself so scared of having this surgery that it triggered something in my body and caused me to start having panic attacks. People have many different reasons for why they feel their attacks started. This book explains to you what's going on and gives you many examples of what other people have gone through. It will tell you what to do in order to get rid of your anxiety. You are not alone. Buy this book and get your life back to the way it used to be. This is nothing to be ashamed of. Thousands of people have had this happen. I thank God that Dr. Claire Weekes wrote this life changing book. God Bless!

    My Sanity Bible

I found this book over 25 years ago when I was sure that I had everything wrong with me. After 5 ER visits, Scans, three different Doctors, and three meds prescribed, I went to a book store and this book was sticking out a little on the shelf. It was meant to be. I to this day read it about once a year. It saved my life. I was med free within 6 months. I was back shopping, going out with friends, and happy again. I found out today that my brother is suffering from severe anxiety. I came to the B&N site hoping that the book is still in print. (won't give mine up)I plan to make a purchase to save his mind and life too. Please, if you need help, give this a try. Thank you Dr Claire Weekes.

This book has been my BIBLE for anxiety since 1978. I still reference it almost 30 years later. Make this book YOUR bible. It works!

    FREE AT LAST!

The first day I bought this book I felt I wasn't alone. I bought the book in 1980 and I still find it comforting today. The techniques are timeless. Dr. Weekes was the beginning of my understanding of my condition. I no longer have panic attacks or fear my anxiety, but I still treasure my book like a precious friend who helped me through the worst time of my life. Thank you, Dr. Weekes.

    Life Saver

After suffering horrendously with anxiety attacks and getting no help from my doctor, a friend gave me her copy of Claire Weekes' book. This was 20 years ago, a time when doctor's seemed to know less about this malady and no one I knew had symptoms like mine. Reading Weekes' book was like an epiphany. I realized I was not alone and that thousands of others had nerve problems just like mine. That was the first godsend - to know my problem was truly nerve-related and that I wasn't going to die. The book explained why my body was experiencing the physical symptoms and then calmly told me what to do about it. I read her book dozens of times during the next several months and in one year's time, I was 100% better. I have recommended this book to many other people and will continue to do so.

    Thank God For Claire Weekes

I came across this book at a time in my life when I needed help, and at this time ( early 70's ) no one understood much about Panic, and anxiety, and all the feelings that comes with it. Had it not been for the chance finding of this book I don't think I would have made it. 'Hope, and Help For Your Nerves' is a must for anyone trying to fight through hopelessness, and fear feelings...Claire Weekes who was an M.D. has left us now, but her writings, and understanding of this problem has saved countless suffering among people trying to find their way out of these feelings of hopelessness. God bless her for what she did, and may she rest in peace having given us all something to hope for....

I HAD READ EVERY SELF HELP BOOK ON THE MARKET

I SPENT 20+ YEARS TRYING TO HEALING MYSELF FROM EVERYTHING FROM SUBSTANCE ABUSE TO RELATIONSHIP/FAMILY ISSUES AND THEN SOME. THE MAN IN MY LIFE FOR 9 YEARS RECOMMENDED THIS BOOK TO ME 8 YEARS AGO WHEN WE GOT TOGETHER. I THOUGHT IT WAS ANOTHER SELF HELP BOOK AND ONCE AGAIN DIDN'T WANT TO GO THROUGH THE EXCITEMENT OF THINKING I HAVE FOUND WHAT 'IT' (WHAT WAS WRONG WITH ME) WAS. SO I AVOIDED IT. HE HEALED HIMSELF MANY YEARS AGO, BY THIS WONDERFUL OFFERING THAT CLAIRE DESCRIBES. BUT ONCE AGAIN AFTER FEELING THE WORST I HAVE EVER FELT, I DECIDED TO GIVE IT A TRY. IF YOU SUFFER FROM NERVES (WHICH MOST SUBSTANCE ABUSERS DO) THIS BOOK WILL DESCRIBE WHAT YOU HAVE BEEN FEELING, 'LIKE NO OTHER.' I FELT THAT I HAD COME HOME, AND TO DATE, I HAVE FOUND THE ANSWER THAT WORKS, ITS A BOOK YOU CAN COME BACK TO, OVER AND OVER FOR CONTINUED REASURRANCE AND GETTING BACK ON TRACK. HOWEVER IT ISN'T A QUICK FIX, BUT DESCRIBES EVERYTHING YOU HAVE BEEN FEELING, AND LETS YOU KNOW THAT YOU'RE NOT CRAZY OR 'LOSING IT' YOU JUST NEED TO FOLLOW HER OUTLINE FOR 'HEALING YOUR NERVES' I PROMISE THAT YOU WILL KNOW IMMEDIATELY (IF YOU SUFFER FROM NERVOUS DISORDER) THAT YOU HAVE FOUND A BOOK THAT CAN DESCRIBE YOUR SYMPTOMS LIKE KNOW OTHER) AND I HAVE READ JUST ABOUT EVERYTHING! MY HOPE IN WRITING THIS, IS TO PASS ON THE WONDERFUL RELIEF AND HAPPINESS I HAVE FOUND. CLAIRE WEEKES' DEFINES THE DETAILS OF HOW OUR MINDS CAN RUN US NUTS, TO THE POINT WE THINK WE'RE CRAZY, BUT READ ON BECAUSE SHE WILL HELP YOU FEEL BETTER INSTANTLY, IF YOU PRACTICE WHAT SHE PRESCRIBES.

    It is a lifesaver

In 1976, I suffered my first major panic attack, and no one was able to explain to me why, and why I felt as I did, and how to stop it. I was told to 'relax'. O, sure... I finally found a psychiatrist who handed me the book, asked that I read it, and see if I found myself in it. I, of course, did, and I have done very, very well, ever since. Even today, I highly recommend this reassuring, helpful calming book! I actually called Dr. Weekes in 1982 to thank her. She was so generous with her words and so wonderful to speak with. I hope she knows just how many people she has helped, and still does, to this day. I am open to hearing from others with panic disorder

This book told me things my Medical Doctor never told me.

This book is in no way to take the place of a medical consultation with your own Doctor. In 1990, after having extensive teeth repairs, I begin having anxiety attacks followed by depression. Having been an out going person, I knew something was wrong but didn't know what to do. Finally a friend made me an appointment with a Gynecologist. He decided I was going through the change of life. Prescribed RX and told me to 'deal with it'. My regular Doctor also told me it wouldn't kill me. For six months I tried to deal with it. Finally I came across Claire Weekes book 'Hope and help for your Nerves'. She explains it so simple. I read it like a Bible. I found walking at a good pace helped relieve the anxiety. Over the year I have bought over a dozen of these books and gave them to people I have come in contact having problems with their nerves. It took me another year to 'desensitize' my nerves but I have recoved!! I give thanks to God for his help. But when I came to understand what it was...then I could deal with it and recover. I highly recommend this book to anyone having panic attacks, depression or any mental disorder.

    Stop Panic Attacks Immediately

About 4 years ago I suffered my first major Panic Attack. At least I thought it was my first. I realize now, that although I hadn't always had all of the symptoms of this one major Panic Attack, I had had them for probably 5 years prior to that time. My mother has severe Panic Attacks with Agorophobia. She has had it since she was 34. I suffered my first real major Panic Attack when I was 35 or 36. This is a typical age to begin getting Panic Attacks. They normally start between your late 20's and early 30's. I knew about Panic Disorder for many years because my mom suffered from it, but until I had one, I never could have imagined how devistatingly scarry and physically symptomatic they were. All I can say, is that my mom told me to get this book and the minute after my Panic Attack subsided which took about 2 hours, I started reading Hope & Help For Your Nerves. It made me cry. Out of happiness. I knew the symptoms I had just suffered were physically harmless and I wasn't going to die. I also saw how many other people suffered the exact same symptoms. This book, through certain relaxation techniques I believe has saved my emotional/mental health. Anyone who has severe anxiety or Panic Disorder should immediately buy and read this book. It is a very short little paperback book that is very easy to understand.
