This book is one of the handiest game books recently published. Not too specialized, as games books often are (e.g., Steven Schwartz's COMPUTE!'s Guide to Nintendo Games, Compute, 1989; Camilla Gryski's Super String Games, Morrow, 1988; and Mitsumasa Anno's Anno's Math Games, Philomel, 1987, although all are good choices), this boasts a well-rounded list of old-time favorites. The clear, simple format tells where to play, number of players, equipment, and object of the game. There is a section for indoor games, playground games, pavement and step games, water games, party games, and travel games, all requiring little or no expense. Included are such favorites as Kick-the-Can, Ring-A-Levy-O, Red Rover, and Capture the Flag. This is a worthwhile purchase for teachers, playground instructors, day-care centers, parents, and grandparents, and is essential for public libraries.
