Meet the Author

Swapnajit Mitra is one of those writers, who in spite of their long stay outside of India, still gets their subjects and storylines from the daily lives of the country. That is why in his writing still Bel trees put traps of shadows on the ground using the mild winter sunlight, pre-historic jungle deity Kusu gets her worships in the middle of the night and trains cross the bridge on the river Kalindi waking up the lazy frogs in the river. In his writing, the characters all have common names and they remind the reader of someone known before. But as Swapnajit traverses the world inside their minds in his stories, these simple characters become unique and unforeseen. Establishing this deep rooted connection between the imaginary and half-waking worlds inside our human minds is the main characteristic of his stories.

Swapnajit started writing way before he left the boundary of his primary school. Early on he selected rhymes and short stories as the main media for his writing. During his stay outside of India he, using his own or pseudo-names wrote for Shatarupa, Shonkho and Sanskriti. His story has been published on Rabibasariya Anandabazar Patrika. He also got the first place in 'Katha' competition of India Currents magazine.

The current work 'Horek Maal Sare Chh' Taka' is a compilation of his short stories on Barnes and Noble Nook, the first ever book in Bengali to have that honor.
