Overview

British soldier Peter Lennox, a POW in an Italian prison camp, is still fighting his own war. An artist in civilian life, his hands bear the scars of wounds received during his capture at the fall of Tobruk, and he suspects he will never paint again. The only thing that sustains him is plotting his escapes, no matter how many times he is recaptured. But in September 1943 the Italians surrender to the Allies, and Lennox is free. Wanting nothing more than to return to the fighting, he is instead assigned to the mountains of the South Tyrol as a liaison to a desperate band of resistance fighters.

With little more than courage and knowledge of the local terrain, Lennox and his comrades must help pave the way for an Allied push that may change the course of the war.

    Strong, Thrilling WWII Story

This is a very good, albeit rather short, story set in World War II about prisoners of war who are seeking escape. Without giving the plot away, I'll simply say that Helen MacInnes is considered a master of suspense for good reason, and this book measures up favorably with her others. For me personally, I prefer her Cold War books, but this in no way diminishes her triumph here. Take a chance. You'll be glad you did.

    Razorstar

A lean dark brown tom with a fluffy white chest, a thin long tail and dark blue eyes. He is quiet, but when he speaks he is well-spoken. In large crowds he tends to hide, but with friends or loved ones he is more open. Sometimes he has a hidden dark side that can think of twisted plots to win war. He is an expert fighter, quick footed, charming, and smart. &&razorstar
