Horrie's Miscellany: The Short Life of a Good Dog
Here is the story of Corporal Horrie, mascot for the 2/1st Machine Gun Battalion in World War II. This little Egyptian terrier saw Australian Army service in Egypt, Greece, Crete Syria and Palestine, coming home safely in his master's backpack in 1942. Over the next three years his master, Private James Moody extended his daily diary in correspondence with Ion Idriess, and the result was Horrie the Wog Dog, due for publication in June 1945. However, by publicly offering up this war dog to help the R.S.L., Moody found an angry Government department who sought Horrie's death - in case of rabies - and imprisonment for Moody. This Miscellany is filled with original hand-coloured photographs of Horrie in action, correspondence with Idriess and Government; and also holds the first published pictures of Horrie at Corryong - after all the fandango; and is introduced by Tim Bowden.
