Meet the Author

I was born in 1981, the first child of David and Catherine, although it wasn’t long before I had a sister, Natalie. We grew up in a small Bedfordshire town, about thirty-minutes drive from London, and I spent my days jaunting between various sports fields and the nearby woods, where fun and adventure were never far away.

The first book I remember wanting to read was The Hobbit by J.R.R. Tolkien, and I’m embarrassed to say the school-library copy is still on my bookshelf. As a nine-year-old I think the story was somewhat lost on me, but the pictures were very cool.

My love of horror, sci-fi and films with lots of action goes back as long as I can remember, and undoubtedly stems from my mum, who is similarly afflicted with a soft-spot for anything on the telly that goes bang or makes her jump. Some of my fondest childhood memories are staying up late on a Saturday night to watch a James Bond or Schwarzenegger film with my parents on either side of me. I have my own sofa now, but I’m still channel hopping to find the same thrill!

It’s the horror genre that I find most captivating and I watched, read and played within it as much as I could growing up. During my teenage years, with the release of the Resident Evil 2 video game, I found a particular fondness for zombies that has stayed with me ever since. There is something about the duality of a recognisable world filled with the stuff of nightmares that resonates with me as much now as it did then. In fact, as life progresses, and I’ve made the gradual (and sometimes reluctant!) change from carefree-teen to responsible adult, the thought of such events is even more terrifying…

My life changed when I met Serena in 2001, and I’m proud to say we married three-and-a-half years later in 2004. Without her love and support, I’m not sure where I’d be now. In 2009 we were blessed with the birth of our son, Luke. He came home for the first time on the morning of my twenty-eighth birthday.

When I’m away from work I still enjoy various sports and I have a masochistic streak for undertaking DIY projects that I should probably leave to someone else. For the record, I don’t regret the week that Serena and Luke had to move out because we had no running water while I put down a new floor in the bathroom. Perhaps I simply like to see Serena’s wide-eyed expression when I utter the now dreaded words: “I reckon I could do…”

Should you wish to contact me about my work, I’d be more than happy to hear from you: drew_brown@live.com

    Pretty good

The stories themselves arent really scary. The author has managed to be really creative though and that alone makes this book interesting. I really enjoyed this easy read.

To the haters...lets see YOU write a book. Odds are you lack the creativity in your pea brains to get to page 10. So do the world a favor and shut up with your nit picking. If you cant glean the meaning of a word by context or understand a sentence because of structure then you need to get back on the short bus.

A Lack of Chills Nor Thrills

Either I am braver than ever hoped or stories of toads fail to unnerve me in the slightest. The hospital segment might have been frightening if not for the choice of the word 'bloomin'. I give the author some credit as the majority of the shorts were not riddled with cliches.

    A great book

This book kept me turning the pages. Even though i didnt like only two of these stories, the rest were very good. If you love scary stories with some freaky plots this is the book for you.

Easy, fast paced and entertaining reading

A great book for vacation or "stuck at the airport" times. I wish it'd had more stories.

    Enjoyable short stories

I really liked all of the short stories included in this book. They were all well written and easy quick reads. They reminded me of stories you would tell around a campfire.
