Horrorscope [Explicit Lyrics]

Editorial Reviews

Barnes & Noble - Moira McCormick
Eve 6 unsweeten their power-pop sound with stabs of aggressive riffing and angsty vocals, but the L.A. trio, who were signed while still in high school, reflect more of adolescent awkwardness than rock-'n'-roll rebellion on Horrorscope. The album's 12 lean, punchy songs are catchy, the playing is well-muscled, and the harmonies are tight -- just what fans would expect from the glossy, tasteful alt rock Eve 6 served up on their self-titled 1998 debut. Singer/bassist Max Collins still tends to try a little too hard in the lyrics department, especially on "On the Roof Again" "Your heinous highness broke her hymen" and "Amphetamines" "Waiting for the month of ...

The album's 12 lean, punchy songs are catchy, the playing is well-muscled, and the harmonies are tight -- just what fans would expect from the glossy, tasteful alt rock Eve 6 served up on their self-titled 1998 debut. Singer/bassist Max Collins still tends to try a little too hard in the lyrics department, especially on "On the Roof Again" "Your heinous highness broke her hymen" and "Amphetamines" "Waiting for the month of come-what-may, I smelled you on my shirt today". But the couple of cuts that break away from the pack -- in particular "Bang," with its insistent, arousing rhythms and commanding guitars -- hint that Eve 6 are ready to graduate into some serious rock.
All Music Guide - MacKenzie Wilson
Eve 6 was naturally tossed into the mid-'90s hutch of generic post-grunge alterna-rock think Everclear, Third Eye Blind, Marcy Playground, and their 1998 self-titled debut went platinum thanks to the heavy spin of single "Inside Out." Their brash attitude was certainly apparent, cheeky pop rock was in the full throw, and two years later Eve 6 flaunted their fiery rock demeanor once again on Horrorscope. It's another conventional rock record with thrashing guitar hooks and throbbing basslines firmly in place, but frontman Max Collins has lyrically improved. There isn't anything intellectually impressive and the hyperactive little boy excitement is still present, but a lush sweet side also shines through the album, specifically on songs like "Here's to the Night." The swooning ballad-esque atmosphere doesn't last long, for the dozen song set list is primarily hard rock layers of old school metal rock. "Rescue" is vibrant and twitching, glossed with electronic tinges, and "On the Roof Again" is the typical post-break up swan song cast for the pop kids leading the millennial punk revival. It's a nice switch from the angst-ridden insensibility of rockers like Fred Durst and the frilly fluff of the Britneys and Christinas. Horrorscope is a decent move for Eve 6, neither slumping nor skyrocketing. And like their modern pop
ock counterparts, Eve 6 keep it basic.

The best (and most underrated album) of 2000

I was familiar with Eve 6 after their first album so when this album came out, I took a listen in a record store. I loved it immediately. Mix modern rock with pop metal and you've got this riff fest of catchy songs. Not a week spot on the album.
