Overview

If you've ever giggled at "A Horse Running on Gas", reveled in "The Perfect Ride", or had a "Dream Fulfilled" by a horse, you'll relate to this celebration of Horses and Their People. The poems evoke tears of laughter and sadness, especially for horse owners recognizing their own personal memories of "Been there, done that." For non-horse owners, the poetry provides unconventional insights into daily life spent with these amazing creatures.

The accompanying photographs capture the charisma, grace, and beauty of horses, while the sometimes silly, sometimes serious poems examine the relationships and rapport that exists between humans and horses. A touching and fun read for horse lovers everywhere.

Meet the Author

The authors of Horses and Their People, Jane Moor and Mike Hammitt, developed a long distance friendship through their mutual love of horses and writing. Having each read and enjoyed articles by the other, email notes rapidly lead to a continuing editor, proofreader and sometimes complete rewriter relationships.

Jane, a retired elementary teacher has a lifetime with horses and brings to this partnership a near professional knowledge and understanding of horses. While trail riding is her obsession, she has participated in showing, breeding, and competitive trail riding competition. She has been active in the equine community and organizations and especially enjoys judging 4-H horse projects. She has published articles on various subjects in local newspapers and a number of articles and poetry in equine publications.

Mike, a retired business executive discovered horses when his new bride brought her lifelong avocation of horses into their marriage. What had been the occasional articles assigned by editors, ranging from gardening to personality interviews, changed with his first horse, a gift from his wife. Telling others through his articles about the wonderful world of horses led to a humorous article about his
“Journey to Horsemanship”. The response from readers brought a request from the editor of The International Rocky Mountain Horse magazine, to make a continuing column of his “journey”. Writing was no longer an occasional “thing to do” but a passion to share his love of horses with others.

Horses and their People is a fun book, full of poems and short stories about, what else, horses and their people. You can tell they were written by horse owners. I highly recommend this book.
