Overview

From the New York Times bestselling author of Shards of Hope, Shield of Winter, and Heart of Obsidian
Lora Leigh calls Nalini Singh's Psy/Changeling series “a sensual, dangerous adventure not to be missed.” Now, as the deadly Psy Council tightens its grip, a rebel Psy scientist finds herself at the mercy of a changeling who has sworn vengeance against her kind…
Separated from her son and forced to create a neural implant that will mean the effective enslavement of her psychically gifted race, Ashaya Aleine is the perfect Psy—cool, calm, emotionless...at least on the surface. Inside, she’s fighting a desperate battle to save her son and escape the vicious cold of the PsyNet. Yet when escape comes, it leads not to safety, but to the lethal danger of a sniper’s embrace.
DarkRiver sniper Dorian Christensen lost his sister to a Psy killer. Though he lacks the changeling ability to shift into animal form, his leopard lives within. And that leopard’s rage at the brutal loss is a clawing darkness that hungers for vengeance. Falling for a Psy has never been on Dorian’s agenda. But charged with protecting Ashaya and her son, he discovers that passion has a way of changing the rules...

The Psy Council orders scientist Ashaya Aleine to conduct research that she finds is an abomination. However she feels cornered with no options as the Council has abducted her son Keenan and she knows how nasty their torture can be.---------------- Ashaya assists the Changelings who rescue several kidnapped children. In return she pleads with the Changelings to liberate her child. Changeling sniper Dorian Christensen hates all Psy who he holds culpable for the murder of his sister. However, to his chagrin he and his inner leopard essence are attracted to Dorian. When she risks her life to defy the Council, he knows he must help her and her son although he expects to die in the effort.--------------- HOSTAGE TO PLEASURE, the fifth Psy-Changeling, is an excellent urban fantasy romance that stars two terrific lead antagonists who have reasons to distrust one another making love unwelcome. The story line is cleverly devised so that this exciting tale can be read by as a stand alone, but for saga fans adds depth to the overall ¿super¿ plot. The sub-genre audience will enjoy this entire wonderful series (see MINE TO POSSESS, SLAVE TO SENSATION, VISIONS OF HEAT and CARESSED BY ICE).------------------ Harriet Klausner

This is such an original and detailed series, and with each installment the author reveals to us another aspect of the world she is building with such mastery. As a mystery and as a drama, this more than book delivers. Suspense? Yes. Humor? Definitely. Plot? Check? Characters? Check-check! Love story? Unforgettable. My only complaint is that the cover art may turn off a lot of people. These are very good novels, and their multi-faceted nature and will satisfy many needs in readers. I'd hate for potential readers to be turned away from such an original and precious gift of a series by the cheesy man-candy images. It actually took me a long while to take the leap and read the first book in the series because the cover pic was just too ridiculous. I'm glad I went against my instinct. Now, I mark down when these books are due to be released and I re-read them all the time. Brava, Ms. Singh!

I continue to be amazed at how much I am enjoying this series. Each book completes a couple story but expands the overarching story of this world. And while the last book added the humans as featured characters, this one adds some human mystery. Having never liked third person writing, I am equally amazed how much this authors third person writing just works for me. The POV changes and so the connections are made that I normally miss when reading this type of writing style. But because of this style, we learn so much about what's going on in with the Psy council and the mystery human group that pops up in this book. I love how this author adds the characters that will become important in the next book. This time, we learn a little bit more about Mercy and guess what? Her book is next. It's like when you need to know about them, they show up and that feature really appeals to me. Additionally, we get bits about couples that were previous featured. Lucas will always be around as the alpha of the cats but I love how we still see him take pleasure in kissing his mate and being there for pack. And I can't wait for more wolves. There was a bits and pieces with them in this book and so I love the dynamics over in the Snow Dancers pack. They have become good allies to the cats and vise versa. This makes me all kinds of happy. The writing continues to HOLD my attention, the story always surprises me and the characters are definitely part of my pack. I just can't get enough. More...give me more. AND did I mention HOT? These shifters love to touch. Love to bring the pleasure. Yum. Dorian. My heart broke for this cat that can't shift. He's become the best of the best just to prove his place as a Sentinel. His surfer looks and protective personality had me loving him even more. But this story was personal for this cat. How can he love someone from the race that killed his sister? He's vowed to take down the council. So he fought his cat on this one. Course, cats can be pretty persuasive. As for Ashaya...what a mystery this M-pys is. Nothing is as it seems. Even when I thought I had her figured out she had more secrets. Did I mention that Dorian doesn't like secrets? Some pretty fun scenes between these two as they tried to work through some of it. But nothing prepared me to love her as much as I did. Her love for her cat...her Dorian and how she completed him made her perfect to me. She doesn't back down from this protective cat. She loves him. She challenges him. She satisfies him. Yeah, I love her for that and all her little secrets. Satisfying. Addictive. Surprising. Enjoyable. Pleasurable. Demanding of my attention. AND it should be your next read...this series.

Gripping and Excellent I love this book because of the profound acts of bravery on the part of the heroine and this amazing look at motherhood. The love story  between the emotionally awaken Psy genius doctor heroine and the brooding Changeling warrior hero is compelling. A reader can completely understand why each would fall in love with the other. All the nuances of great world building and character development are here. And there is so much love.  This book moves the overall plot of series forward in vital ways so I wouldn't read it out of order but It is worth getting caught up in this series for this book and several others in this world that are simply excellent ways to spend your time.
