All Music Guide - Scott Yanow
The English collectors' label Halcyon not to be mistaken for Marian McPartland's record company of the same name put together a very interesting collection of rare hot dance-band performances for this LP. Jan Garber is heard in 1927 when the future sweet bandleader headed a respectable jazz outfit. In addition there are numbers by a variety of obscure groups including the Seattle Harmony Kings, Howard Lanin's Ben Franklin Dance Orchestra, Charles Dornberger a hot version of "Tiger Rag", Blue Steele and Jacques Renard's Cocoanut Grove Orchestra. 1920s collectors will want this album.
