Overview

What serious car lover hasn't found themselves embroiled in a heated discussion with a coworker, family member, or friend about the merits of one particular make or model of car over another?

Pitting some of the most revered names in automotive history against one another, and comparing speed, acceleration, handling, and many other attributes, Hot Cars Head to Head aims to answer some of those age-old questions: Which is the most desirable, the Corvette Sting Ray or Jaguar E-Type? Which is the more refined, the Dodge Viper or AC Cobra? Including legendary pairings such as Ferrari versus Lamborghini and Mustang versus Camaro, Hot Cars Head to Head features more than 100 of the greatest cars ever produced, ranged fender to fender.

Illustrated with stunning studio and action photography, Hot Cars Head to Head is a fascinating celebration of the automobile arms race that has produced such remarkable machines as the Ferrari F40, Ford GT40, and Plymouth Prowler.

A team of specialist motoring writers compares and contrasts each pair of cars, while individual features detail the cars' development, design, and handling. A comprehensive specifications panel, providing technical information including engine capacity, power, torque output, and price when new, accompanies each car.

The book was let down by very poor copy editing. It is full of sloppy errors such as transposed headings, 'p206/7' photos 'the engines on pages 12 and 13', and specifications 'engine capacities on pages 148 and 149'. It also expresses writers opinions that are not supported by facts, such as the Toyota Supra '..a superb engine...displaces a mere 3 litres...'(p 123) and '...a smaller capacity unit than the Nissan's lump.'(p120) The Nissan Skyline it is being compared with has a 2.5 litre engine with a higher specific power. These are only a few of the mistakes I found - they are all over the place. e.g we are expected to believe that the Dodge Viper is powered by a 30cu inch engine on page 145!. There are also real omissions. No Mitsibushis, Subarus or any other rally cars. A comparison between an Evo and a WRX would have been great. No Aussie muscle cars like E49 vs GTHO Phase IV, or Monaro vs Torana.
