LEGEND'S LANDING BED & BREAKFAST, BOOK 4

What’s a small town cop to do when the love of his life runs away when he pops the question?

Wild Katie Long, she’ll never settle down. But Chris Marks has had his eye on her for a long time. When Chris hires Suzie to set him up with a romantic dinner for two, Suzie does all she can to set the mood. Thing is, Katie isn’t about to be wooed and she’s hotter than hot crossed buns when she figures out what Chris is up to. Then Suzie turns the tables by supplying Chris with a couple of items that just might tame Katie after all—handcuffs and a leather riding crop.

I have to say, I don’t usually read short stories or novellas. I often feel that they’re too short to really connect to the characters, but that was NOT an issue with ‘Hot Crossed Buns’. From the very second we’re introduced to Wild Katie and Officer Chris, I felt like I knew them. Their voices were so distinct, and their personalities almost tangible. Plot – (4 paws) — Again we’re brought into the world of Suzie Matthews, self-proclaimed matchmaker extraordinaire. She soon realizes that Katie and Chris might be beyond her help, and the two of them set off on a sexy journey of ‘falling in love’. There were surprises that I didn’t see coming that really rounded out the story. And of course, the sexy southern drawls stole my heart again. Pace – (4 paws) — Instead of being introduced to two characters who are meeting for the first time, we’re introduced to a couple with a past and brought up to speed as the story goes along. This made the pacing much more enjoyable and believable in my opinion. It could have worked out for the worse, seeing as we are essentially given an ‘info dump’, but Maddie James gave just enough to keep you in the know and not be lost. Characters – (4 paws) — Again, despite the length, I really felt like I knew the characters. I enjoyed Katie’s snarkiness and go-get-it attitude, and I definitely swooned over how much Chris loved and accepted her. We don’t get to see much of Suzie in this one, but I still felt she played a major role in salvaging their relationship. Writing – (4 paws) – Maddie has a way of giving descriptions and information without drowning the reader, which I really appreciate. Her sentences are fully formed and properly punctuated (my biggest pet peeve EVER is bad comma usage) so it makes the reading fast and easy. I didn’t even realize I was at the end until it said THE END. And then I was sad, because I wanted more! Cover – (3 paws) — The cover matches the first in the series, which I like, but it’s still not one that has me in awe. Especially for this one, I would have liked to have seen something steamier.
