Editorial Reviews

Children's Literature
This daschund is one hot dog. He is trying to find a place to cool off, but every time he tries to settle down, the current occupant chases him away. After an attempt at sharing the shade with cat or wallowing in the cool mud with pig, he finally ends up sharing the swimming pool with a little girl. Now he is no longer a hot dog—he's a chilly dog. Beginning readers probably won't get the puns, but those helping them undoubtedly will. An amusing and repetitive text helps those just beginning to read and the pictures will add to the fun. Part of the "Road to Reading" series, this is a Mile 1 book for kids who know the alphabet and are just beginning to read. Each book in the series contains guidance for parents and a description of what each of the five levels is designed to do. 1998, Golden Books, and $3.99. Ages 4 to 6. Reviewer: Marilyn Courtot

Great way to introduce children into reading. The pictures helped my niece to understand the words she was reading. She loved reading the book and looking at the pictures

Great teaching tool. Enough words on the page to keep them interested. As an adult I enjoyed reading to my nieces and don't tire after reading repeatly.

    1st book

This book was my son's first entire book to read. He loved it! Great story, colorful pictures, some repetitive words, funny and very phonetic. He loves rereading it. Brings a smile to his face and mine!

    this dog is hot!!!!!

My three year old daughter loves this book. She has memorized each page and has begun reading it to her me and her father. We love this story and also recommend Road Hog. These stories are interesting, funny and well written. We also have Big Bird Says [A game to read and play] and that it is also one of my daughter's favorites.
