Overview

The essential guide for all moms, with kids of any age, who want to include fitness in their lives and raise a healthy family, but they are struggling to balance the demands of parenthood and busy multitasking lifestyles.

Authors, moms, and fitness enthusiasts Kara Douglass Thom and Laurie Kocanda work to balance motherhood and fitness. They know other moms struggle to make exercise a priority in their lives because they speak with similarly minded women at seminars and on their blogs. It was from these conversations—and the interest in them—that the idea for Hot (Sweaty) Mamas was born. This book is perfect for every mom or mom-to-be thinking about starting an exercise program, as well as moms already pursuing their fitness goals.

Hot (Sweaty) Mamas reaches a wider audience than other fitness books that merely focus on "getting your prebaby body back" by presenting advice on how to pursue fitness despite a busy schedule, how to carve out time with or without kids to work out, and how to get the support needed to pursue fitness goals. Moms who find it difficult to start or stick with an exercise program will learn how to reframe their thinking. Women who continue to work out and struggle with the guilt sometimes associated with taking "me time" will be reassured. Mothers-to-be will feel better prepared to pass a legacy of health and fitness to their children and make fitness and motherhood coexist. Thom and Kocanda reveal the secrets to being a fit mom inside Hot (Sweaty) Mamas.

Not your typical fitness book - highly recommend

LOVE, love this book. I'm returning to fitness after using parenthood as an excuse for 7 years now. This book? Did it for me. And I read anything and everything I can get my hands on. Most books about being a mom and juggling things don't delve deep enough to address fitness; and most books on fitness don't address the unique needs of a mom. This book is a practical approach that is helpful for ANY mom at ANY fitness level to figure out how to fit (haha - pun intended) fitness in her life. What really resonated with me was the section on finding the time - the authors label it as, "take it, make it, share it, or snare it." It's an awesome way to think about how to organize your time and fit it in. I used this logic just a few days ago and actually completed a run when my day was really challenging and normally I would have given up.

Highly recommend this book, no matter where you are on your fitness journey.

    A must read!

I read about this book in Parenting magazine and immediately picked it up. It is funny, inspiring, and very helpful. A quick and easy read, divided into short chapters (as we only get short snippets to read as mothers!), I found this book to be indispensable as I plan my new life as a fit mom! I look forward to hearing the authors speak at this year's marathon expo in St. Paul, MN!
