Overview

Hot Stone Massage: A Three Dimensional Approach, by Leslie Bruder, is a user-friendly, easy-to-follow manual designed to teach professional massage therapists how to give a safe, effective, and artful hot stone massage. The book covers every aspect of administering a hot stone massage including the many types of stones along with their geological origin, equipment and accessories needed, room set up, benefits and precautions, diseases and conditions to avoid, physiological effects of heat and cold, effective stone temperatures, diagrams for stone placement, creative massage techniques, and a novel system for optimal stone management and flow.

The book's centerpiece is a unique three-dimensional approach to hot stone massage, which involves working on both sides of the body at once, removing stones from beneath clients without their involvement, and transitioning seamlessly from one body part to another. There are also detailed instructions on the principles and strokes involved in giving an encompassing three-dimensional hot stone massage.

The chapters of this book are organized progressively, beginning with the basics of a hot stone massage and then moving onto more advanced techniques. Each chapter includes an outline of its contents, a bulleted list of objectives, an introduction, and a list of key terms with definitions. Special tip and caution boxes appear throughout each chapter offering reminders and easy access to important information. At the end of each chapter there is a summary and a list of review questions to make sure you have effectively digested the material.

Charts on stone sizes, chakras, temperatures, and equipment grace the pages along with 200 full-color photographs that support all techniques and descriptions. The appendices further include sources for acquiring stone sets, locating instructors of this modality, and finding books for supplementary reading. Lastly, the reader is offered a step-by-step nine-page guide to giving a full body hot stone massage.

A companion Website offers the fully searchable text, sample syllabi, and an image bank.

Unbelievable Book!! A Must To Own!

Out of all the hot stone massage books I have read, this one by far surpasses them all! Not only is this book incredibly well written, accurate and thick with information, it also offers important and unique aspects of a hot stone massage not included in any other book or video, such as: how to massage the body on both sides at once; how to remove the stones from beneath the body without involving the client; and how to manage the stones throughout the massage in a fluid seamless fashion. It also includes entire chapters dedicated to important guidelines for using the stones; advanced techniques; and three-dimensional principles and massage strokes with detailed explanations of each. There is also useful and clearly written information about the physiology of heat and cold; each disease or condition that is contraindicated and why; an in-depth list of the many possible stones to use, as well as their geological origins; and a detailed list of all the equipment needed and not needed to give an efficient, flowing, artful hot stone massage. In addition, each chapter is loaded with defined key terms, tip and caution boxes, testimonials and an assortment of useful review questions. It closes with an appendix that includes charts on stone temperatures, sources for acquiring or purchasing sets of stones, instructors of this modality and books for further reading. And the icing on the cake is a step by step 9 page guided full body hot stone massage that leads you through everything you have just been taught in the book. As if this was not enough, this book is done is semi-glossy full color and includes 200 gorgeous photos! It is beautiful and artful and leaves no stone unturned. I found it very helpful, and I have been practicing hot stones for ten years. My husband is just learning and he found it to be very user friendly and powerful. It is simply amazing and I am very impressed. Thank you for writing it!

How to Be a Phenomenal Therapist - Hot Stone Massage and So Much More!

Have you ever received a hot stone massage? If you did, it was either one of the BEST experiences of your life or a terrible one, depending not only on the therapist's training and skill but the quality of their touch.

If you use stones in any way, or want to learn, this it the BEST and most comprehensive book on the subject, written by Leslie Bruder, the Master of Phenomenal Touch and Hot Stone Massage! She brings her 25 years of skill and mastery into an easy to read format, visually appealing layout with dozens of beautiful full-color pictures.

Maybe you are a massage therapist who already uses hot stones, or are interested in learning one of the most popular modalities to save your hands and increase your clientele and business. Maybe you are a Reflexologist, Esthetician, energy worker or other body worker interested in using stones. Or maybe you want to work on your kids, partner, family and friends just for fun in a non-professional way.

This book covers every aspect of using stones for healing and bodywork from A-Z with great depth of information. This is a full comprehensive overview of the subject -- beginning with the history of hot stones and modern ways stones are used in the massage world, different types of stones (metamorphic rock, basalt, quartzite, marble, jade), physiological effects of heat and cold on the body, using placement stones and layouts both on top of the client and under the client, using hot stones to actually massage muscles, contraindications for using hot (and cold) stones, a system to manage the stones during the massage, the best equipment to use and much more.

As a good therapist, your knowledge, techniques and skill are the critical elements for a safe, flowing and effective massage or other bodywork session. But the heart of this book is about helping you become a Phenomenal therapist and body worker - to help bring healing and transformation to your clients' stress and pain. The way you touch your client is so much more important than any technique - your ENERGY and INTENT behind your touch. This is about loving, non-sexual, therapeutic touch to support and nurture another human being who is experiencing stress, pain, loneliness, anxiety or fear. This critical element of massage and bodywork is rarely taught in massage or bodywork schools, and is so lacking in massage (no matter what the price) -- as they focus solely on the technical aspects of the work, forgetting that touch also is about energy, Spirit, love and reverence.

The major Principles of Phenomenal Touch® WILL transform your work and your touch and bring a whole new focus to your sessions -- always being fully mindful and present with your client, reverence and honor for them, the way you start a stroke (entrance) and end it (exit), following their breath, mindfulness of your words, creating a flow in your session, seamless transitions between your hands, the stones, the strokes, how to melt the muscle tissue, working in a Three-Dimensional way, proper body mechanics, protect your back and prevent carpal tunnel, bringing your self and your creativity to your work in new ways. Using The Principles of Phenomenal Touch will bring a higher level awareness and transformation to your self, your clients, your business and the quality of your work in amazing ways.

Very thorough and comprehensive. This woman knows her stuff...!

I have been a massage therapist for over twenty years and have taken many many trainings and advancement classes. This volume has taken the subject of hot stone therapy to a level that makes all the previous trainings I have had seem trite. I was engaged with this text from page one. Multiple color pages and explicit descriptions of all the concepts made me feel like I was being shown advanced work right from the comfort of my own home. The format of step by step information and then self evaluation and question after each section make each concept progressively clear and understandable. An nice addition to the library of the novice and professional alike.
