Editorial Reviews

School Library Journal - School Library Journal
Gr 3-5-- These books focus on three work environments. All have full-color photographs and illustrations and an information-packed text. Hotel traces the development of the hotel service industry throughout the world, with the major emphasis on the hotel staff and how they all come together to keep the guests comfortable and happy. Bank examines the day-to-day activities of banks, and includes savings and checking accounts, credit, personnel, and the role of computers in making banking activities more secure and efficient. Hospital not only describes the activities and functions of a hospital but also discusses specialties such as care of the elderly and those with mental illness. The last spread in all three titles projects these workplaces into the future, : with special emphasis on potential changes. With their picture-book format, the books may at first seem appropriate for young children. However, the reading level is geared to an elementary grade audience, and the print is small. A ``How to Use'' section at the beginning of each book explains all of the special features: bold print, headings, chapters, etc. --Pamela K. Bomboy, Chesterfield County Public Schools, VA
