    'Not your usual Hotel Book'

It´s hard to resist Francisca Matteoli´s Hotel stories. Her book brings alive both her experience and timeless magic. I am fascinated by hotels and I love this book becouse after so many boring and conventional hotel books, she brings something really different. A contagious sense of fun.

    An opportunity wasted

While the list of hotels included is fine, this is a lazy effort. The 'stories' are the briefest snippets, and some of the limited space is wasted on text that is better described in Fodor's travel books (e.g. close proximity to Fifth Avenue shopping and other tourist information.) Almost none of the photos have captions, a real drawback for such historic hotels. Skip this until a more dedicated author tackles the topic.
