One of our favorite childrens' books. We give it out as presents to our nephews and nieces. Our daughter does the same. She even took some passages from the book to read at her wedding. Hoberman expands on the concept of a house to other dwellings, animals, and in the end gives an environmental message to all of us. Highly Recommended - you must check it out!!
We received a copy of this book as a gift when our first child was born 20 years ago. It is a family favorite for all of us - parents and kids enjoy it. We have given it as a gift many times.
The graphics, story, and overall concepts of this book are well orchestrated into a fun, interesting, and learning book. This book brings back childhood bedtime story memories. I have my original copy, but it has been worn with time. I was thrilled to see it re-released so that I can share it (without caution) with my child.
We have a writing festival each year at our school. We invite a famous author to come and present. Then the classes make books of thier own or class books. I used the idea from this book to create class book. The students came up with a sentence of their own. A string was attached to a picture of some object that belongs in some kind 'home'. For instance...a picture frame is a home for my photo. A finger is a home for my ring...and so on. The object was drawn on paper and colored nicely. It was attached to a string that was glued on the other end to the inside of an envelope. The object could be tucked in. ( I asked for some odd envelopes at the card store....donated.) The kids loved pulling out the object as they read their sentence strip off the envelope.(Typed and published of course!) We had a parent tea and shared our wonderful project.
My kids love this book. The rhyme and illustrations are splendid. They never tire of this one and neither do I. Highly recommended.
