Overview

I was born in the flat fertile Mississippi Delta in 1940. I grew up in a white clapboard plantation house, on the heels of the Great Depression, when cotton was still running the show in the south, and well before the Civil Rights Movement.

Overview

I was born in the flat fertile Mississippi Delta in 1940. I grew up in a white clapboard plantation house, on the heels of the Great Depression, when cotton was still running the show in the south, and well before the Civil Rights Movement.

Love took me out of the Delta, and it was love that brought me back, for there are some things that cannot be forgotten or left behind. So, here it is. After all the years that have come and gone, here is a Delta girl seeing the grand old South through a window, all but closed now.

There were days hot enough to melt lead, and bitter winters that tested and forged the human spirit. And in a way, that’s how I felt looking back on it. There we all were, scratching at the ground for our white gold and imagining the world beyond the cotton rows. It’s my life and a heritage of pride in my homeland, my view of America, of family, of love, and ultimately of the House Not Made With Hands.

Because this lady is my mentor since the age of 15, I read as fast as I could trying to see if I was in there. Sure enough our youth group got a mention. I perused the book the second time reading portions to my 90+year old mom who loves this family like I do. Mother identified with so many things in Jane's growing up days and rejoiced with me as we saw her struggles and triumphs from a different perspective. This book celebrates a house of love built on the Lord Jesus and gave us another chance to praise who our God is!

    What a wonderful story!!!

I love this book. It is a wonderful story of the love, joy, sadness, and triumphs we all face in life. I love how it jumps from past to present and links them together. The details in the book are AMAZING!!! It is one of the most vivid books I've read. This is a must-have for any collection!

This book was an excellent and enjoyable read. Not only was the story moving in so many ways, but each scene was described with such vividness. You become immersed in each page, you are there. I too, like many of the other readers, both laughed and cried througout. Jane Bennett Gaddy is truly talented and I look forward to her many other great works.

    A great love story

This was an encouraging read exemplifying how God's love is woven into all of our lives through the issues of life this couple faced. Thanks for showing us love stories are possible and enduring, and that they need to be shared.

    A look into my past

This great novel by Jane Bennett Gaddy truly captured the Mississippi Delta of the late 50's. The read was just a fun walk down memory lane. I have been to some of the locations mentioned in the book and her descriptions make it seem as if you were standing there again. She mixes the joy and heartache of the day-to-day struggles of a young couple in such a way as to make you want to read just one more page, then another, then another. I will look for more from Dr. Gaddy.

This book is truly amazing. It touched my heart in so many ways. It made me want to laugh and want to cry all at the same time. As a young reader this encouraged me to want to read even more. I believe that this is the perfect book for all ages. This book is a perfect example that couples really do stay together, through easy and hard times. Jane Bennet Gaddy never lost faith in God through her journey and for that she became an even stronger person. I can't wait to see more incredible work from this VERY talented author!

    One of my favorite books

As a pastor's wife and mom, I connected to this story and was so encouraged. I laughed - sometimes out-loud - and cried through the entire book. I didn't want there to be an end. House Not Made With Hands is a book I will read over and over. I can't wait for more from this author.

    wonderful read

As a 'true' Southern belle I can appreciate the wonderful, accurate depiction of the real South. Wonderfully written in an easy to the ear cadence. House not Made with Hands has touched me in a way no book has in ages. The sweet simplicity of this couple made me laugh and cry ,'sometimes all on the same page'. I eagerly anticipate more works from this talented author.

You know when you go browsing down the aisles of Barnes & Noble, just aimlessly wandering and looking for that special something to read - something to warm you on a fall afternoon, when the sky is a bit grey but the promise of tomorrow is near? You just want to take your book home and curl up in your big comfy chair and read until your heart's content, or at least until your eyes can't focus. Well, this is the book to pick up. I chose it first because, like many others, I judge a book by it's cover and the cover (with a warm country home on the front) caught my attention. House Not Made With Hands is a heartwarming book with everything you would want to settle down with and read for hours. Make sure to grab a hot cup of coffee or cocoa, you're not going to want to put it down! It is a precious love story with a bit of humor and continuous challenges that encompass the world of a couple just doing what young couples do (one's that are in the ministry, at any rate) - just loving each other and raising their little family as best they can, while serving the Lord in whatever capacity He sees fit. This book is one that you won't want to put down. I read it slowly so that I could remember every little portion. I didn't want it to end. I NEED MORE! This is one that needs to have a series behind it. So, when you order it, don't plan on getting anything else done, you'll want to basque in the everyday life of a wonderful story of home and walk the streets of the Mississippi delta - you'll want to live in the home of The House Not Made With Hands. Thanx Dr. Gaddy, you outdid yourself - but please write more!
