How Can You Hijack a Cave?

by P. J. Petersen

Editorial Reviews

School Library Journal - School Library Journal
Gr 7-12 In this adventure novel, Petersen again exhibits skill in combining suspenseful plots with natural settings that he showed in The Freshman Detective Blues (1987) and Going for the Big One (1986, both Delacorte). Curt Carver gets a summer job working at Cathedral Caverns along with Pauline, the daughter of the wealthy owner of the cave, and with Lori, the daughter of the manager. When Pauline is kidnapped and hidden inside the cave, Lori and Curt negotiate a narrow, hidden second entrance route in to rescue Pauline. The plot speeds along as various problems arise. Lori is taken prisoner by the kidnappers, and eventually, after an exhausting chase, the kidnapping is thwarted. Vivid descriptions of the claustrophobia of the cave experience as well as of the give and take between Lori and Curt add to the book's appeal. Readers who have enjoyed Petersen's earlier adventure stories or those by Gary Paulsen and Raboo Rogers won't be disappointed by this one.
