How Cars Work and Auto Upkeep: Basic Car Care are two books you need!

What does the average automobile consumer need to know and be able to do? Ninety-nine percent of the people out there do not need to know how to rebuild an engine, but rather have an understanding of how a car works and how to be a good automobile consumer. I have found two basic car care books that explain cars the way I need to understand them -- How Cars Work and Auto Upkeep: Basic Car Care. This book and Auto Upkeep: Basic Car Care get to the point and tell you what you need to know. How Cars Work uses nice drawings to illustrate concepts, while Auto Upkeep: Basic Car Care uses actual photos to show car parts. I think both books compliment each other quite well. Auto Upkeep even includes an activity CD. Since this book and Auto Upkeep are reasonably priced, I would recommend putting them both into your personal library. They also make nice gifts to new drivers out there.

This book succeeds where other car books fail.

Newton¿s How Cars Work spells out the inner workings of modern automobiles in a clear, concise fashion. Each page covers a different car part, from tires to torque converters. The book is replete with detailed illustrations. I think it would be a perfect book for anyone who is not a ¿motorhead¿, but who needs to have some idea of how a car works ¿ basically anyone who drives. It would also be an excellent book for kids who are interested in cars. While this book is not bogged down with technical jargon, it does not skimp on the details either. In each explanation the author has strived for clarity. This is definitely the best ¿car basics¿ book out there right now. I strongly recommend a visit to the How Cars Work website for a sample chapter

    Excelent book for Car Dummies!!

How cars work can range from no knowledge on cars to car machanics. There is a variety of chapters in this book concerning engines, breaks, cooling systems, and wanting to know basic knowledge about cars. Although this book doesnt go in depth about a spacific part, it outlines the "must know" machanics of cars. How Cars Work gets the reader informed about vocab and "terms" used to talk technically about cars. It is fit into teenagers or new drivers wanting to know about the basics. It is divided into seven chapters and each chapter describes a different system. There are many discriptive pictures and it is highly recomended for someone trying to grasp fundamentals.
