How Deep Is the Ocean?: The Irving Berlin Songbook

Editorial Reviews

All Music Guide - Stephen Cook
Some of jazz's best instrumentalists take over the songbook series on this choice mix of Irving Berlin classics. Ella and Sarah are fine, but with numerous titles in this series having already been given over to vocal interpretations, this blowing tribute comes as a nice surprise. Including both the popular "Say It Isn't So" and obscure "The Washington Twist", How Deep Is the Ocean? features such swing and bop greats as Bill Evans, Charlie Shavers, Red Norvo, and Gerry Mulligan. A very enjoyable way to get familiar with the venerable Berlin catalog.
