Children's Literature - Cheryl Williams Chang
Animals use camouflage to avoid predators and to hunt prey. The ways in which they hide and hunt include using their colors to blend into their environment, changing their colors, pretending to be something that they are not, and using patterns and texture as a disguise. There are animals that scare others away by their appearance. If an animal is brightly colored, then there is a good chance that it is poisonous. If an animal has sharp points or quills, then it should not be touched. A variety of animals, fish, insects, and birds are mentioned in this book. The photographs are large and crystal clear. Each new subject is highlighted in bright, bold colors. The text is simple and clear. Due to the graphics and the text, readership for this book may be broad. An adult can read this nonfiction book to a child or an older child can read it independently. Although the concepts and language are simple, the book is filled with interesting facts. This book includes a table of contents, an index, and two question and answer pages. With interesting facts and colorful photos, this nicely organized book provides wonderful material for reports.
