Editorial Reviews

Children's Literature - RevaBeth Russell
This short, paperback book is so inviting and friendly, especially since it is about baby animals. The table of contents will help developing readers learn how to use a table of contents. Baby animals learn to do things just like the reader learned how to walk or ride a tricycle. The reader reviews what he or she read with questions the book poses. This is a good science reading technique, to learn how to ask questions and think about what you just read. The book feels like you are on a reading treasure map; with instructions to go to page nineteen to read more about penguins or go to page fourteen to learn how a baby fox learns to hunt. This book also has very adorable photographs to show the animals. Animals have great survival strategies; try to find the baby sea horse among the coral. Try not to smile when looking at the baby eels. Who knew they could be so cute? This is a terrific beginning reader book. This is also a great picture book for the non-reader.
