Editorial Reviews

Children's Literature - Marilyn Courtot
Dogs and dinosaurs did not coexist and if they had, dogs would have been dinosaur dinner. Ignoring that likelihood, these dinos exhibit human characteristics in caring for their pet dogs. The official name for each dinosaur is printed on the drawing which provides a nice lesson in itself. It begins with a litany of negative actions followed by all the actions one should take when owning a pet. Bathing your pet, feeding it and walking it every day are important to the good health of a dog. Playing with and rewarding the dog as it fetches a stick or ball are important and of course sharing lots of affection is truly important. The Yolen and Teague duo have produced about a dozen books in the "How do Dinosaurs...." series and this board book version, like the others, is bound to be a hit with the toddler set. Nice series

I really like this dinosaur series of books including this one but this is not the best of the series. I prefer the hardcover to board books. My kids are two and a half and have four books from this series. Although the hardcovers are big and they have torn a few pages (which we fixed), I still like the hardcover media for this series. I like this one if you want to introduce the idea of getting a dog for the family but I hope it encourages the right way to treat a pet. There is also one for cats. Good pictures. They find things in the picture like familiar toys and point them out.
