What if a dinosaur's friends come to play?
Does he mope, does he pout if he can't get his way?
Does he hide all his dump trucks, refusing to share?
Does he throw his friends' coloring books up in the air?

Time and time again, children are told to "play nice." This brilliantly illustrated board book is packed with rhymes that will teach children how. Mark Teague's laugh-aloud illustrations, along with Jane Yolen's playful text, will show children that "playing nice" can be easy and fun. Perfect for parents to read aloud with their children, this book is as humorous as it is instructive.

Editorial Reviews

Children's Literature - Marilyn Courtot
How about a board book featuring dinosaurs that also imparts a lesson relating to play behavior? The text provides some examples of things not to do—not sharing, not treating your friends or your toys with care, and not taking turns or playing games that others might enjoy. Good dinosaurs do not behave that way, and they make sure that you get a turn and choose games that you will both enjoy. Illustrator Teague presents a variety of dinosaurs, and young kids will delight in learning and saying those tongue twisting names. The book is also available in Spanish. Kids will be pleased to see that the dinosaur names are the same in both languages. It might be a very good choice for kids learning either language if you can get the pair.

Every one of Jane Yolen's "How Do Dinosaurs..." by Jan

Every one of Jane Yolen's "How Do Dinosaurs..." by Jane Yolen and Mark Teague is brilliant.  Jane Yolen has perfect pitch for rhythm, so reading her books out loud is a delight.  I have preferred different ones at different stages of my four-year-old's son life.  Right now, he has been taking on the playground by himself and learning to share and take turns with other children.  So, right now, this is my favorite "Dinosaur" book.  Of course, he laughs at the "bad Dinosaur" behavior, but he usually exhibits "good Dinosaur" behavior.
I am so in awe of Mark Teague's illustrations.  His dinosaurs are realistic enough to be in school textbooks, but they are riding tricycles or throwing a temper tantrum.  And that just makes the books even funnier.

    more from this reviewer

Love the "How Do Dinosaurs..." Series!

My two year old son loves all of these books. I first bought him the four board books in this series, but we are graduating to the paper picture books now. He loves the stories - they rhyme in a really cute, easy to remember way, and teach great lessons about being kind, cleaning up, counting, coloring, etc. The illustrations are very cute, not at all scary, and they each have the dinosaurs' real scientific names printed in fine print at the edge of the drawings on each page. These are great books for toddlers and preschoolers. I even read them to my infant daughter because she loves the sing-song stories and colorful pictures.

I laughed when I read this book...Deja Vu!

This book listed all the possibilities of a child amongst friends, and my son was once like this, maybe because he is an only child and never really had friends. He threw things when angry, didn't play nicely and etc. and so on. But, he learned to do so thru learning and accomodating, and this book helped. Thanks!
