Editorial Reviews

Publishers Weekly
Readers can guess the emotions that six rosy-cheeked babies are feeling in various situations in this characteristically well-executed lift-the-flap book from Katz. “Baby wants milk and crackers,” Katz writes in the first scene, as an African-American baby in a floral top and diaper reaches for her bottle and a tray of goodies. “How does baby feel?” The answer appears underneath a large flap that lifts vertically and shows the same baby happily chowing down in her high chair. The formula repeats as Katz’s babies demonstrate feeling happy, sad, silly, sleepy, and loved. A tidy and effective introduction to familiar emotions. Ages 1–4. (Jan.)
Kirkus Reviews
In a playful lift-the-flap title, Katz's cherubs are getting in touch with their feelings. The multicultural cast of plump babies demonstrates hungry, happy, sleepy, silly, sad and loved. The first half of each page spread sets the stage and asks readers such questions as, "Baby wants milk and crackers. How does baby feel?" Across the spread, on the facing page, there's a full-size flap illustrating the scene in Katz's bold cartoons and her colorful and recognizable patterns. Each baby's full emotional state is both pictured and captioned under the flap with parents helpfully in the background to soothe, cuddle or engage. An up-to-standard addition to Katz's extensive board-book oeuvre. (Board book. 6 mos.-3)
