What happens when an accountant decides to grab life by the horns and try something new? Apparently a pirate named Dave, a lot of pastel fleece, and blackmail--just to start with. . .

Visualize and succeed, Oprah said. I was sure as hell trying, even if my campaign to score a job as the local weather girl had ended in a restraining order. Okay, TV was not my strength. But a lack of talent has never stopped me before. Which is why I've embarked on a writing career. I mean, how hard can it be to come up with a sexy romance?

Leave it to me to wind up in a group of porno writing grannies who discuss sex toys and apple cobbler in the same breath. Also leave it to me to leak an outlandish plot idea to a bestselling author with the morals of a rabid squirrel. And only I could get arrested for a jewelry heist I didn't commit--by a hunky cop whose handcuffs just might tempt me to sign up for a life of crime. Maybe I've found my calling after all. . .

"A zany over-the-top rompfest." --Lexi George, author of Demon Hunting in a Dive Bar

Rena is ready to try something new. Her attempt at becoming the local weather girl didn’t exactly work out, so she’s decided to write best-selling romance novels. Joining the local writer’s group doesn’t go exactly the way she planned, either—Rena quickly finds herself conned, blackmailed, and arrested for violating that pesky restraining order from the news station. Determined to clear the writing group’s good name and prove to the hot cop she is not a criminal, Rena embarks on writing the story of a lifetime.

Verdict Peterman goes for madcap romance in her debut novel but doesn’t quite hit the mark. Starting awkwardly, it takes a long time to find the frenetic, zany pacing necessary to sell the chaos surrounding Rena. Many of the subplots seem out of place and could have been removed to help keep that pacing at an even level. While there are funny passages (specifically in the novel Rena is writing) and a hot romance, these elements don’t quite make up for the book’s problems.—Kellie Tilton, Univ. of Alaska Fairbanks Lib.

The blurb for this book caught my eye and I just had to check it out (especially since I work in accounting and love romance) even though it's not paranormal.  I have to say that it was one of the most entertaining reads I've had in a very long time.  Rena is a spunky and fun young woman that gets the crazy idea to join a romance writing club and gets so much  more than she ever expected.  Surrounded by the most unique combination of characters I have ever seen, she initially feels quite out of place.  But then a famous best-selling romance author walks in the door, and her life is forever changed. With her plot idea stolen, Rena and the writing group come up with a crazy idea to show that author just what's up and get back with her for a lifetime of wrongs.  Along the way we also get tossed a hunky cop that seems to enjoy Rena in handcuffs a little too much, and she doesn't mind at all. Not a lot of hot and steamy sex scenes, but there are a few conversations about some sort of weird stuff (in my opinion), but being weird is why it was put there.  A fantastic read that is humorous, touching, and even a bit exciting, it was a perfect light-hearted read.

OMG!!! I never laughed so hard in my life while reading a book!!! My face would hurt, tears formed in my eyes and dang it I couldn't breathe. There were parts that I wanted to call and tell my sister about but I couldn't stop laughing in order to make the call!! She told me it was a good thing I wasn't reading in public, they would think I was crazy. *laughs* From the first chapter I was laughing and I was in love with this book. The only reason I had to put it down was because the battery in my Kindle was screaming at me that it needed more juice. (Damn needy thing) I truly love the characters that Robyn has created. And the Granny Porn group sounds a lot like me and my girlfriends in a couple of decades. *grins*  I laughed and was in shock of the tale that is Pirate Dave and His Randy Adventures. It looks as if it will have its own novella soon and the sequel to this one due sometime in December. I am super excited for both.  If you enjoy a bit of mystery, some romance, a lot of laughter, talk of butt plugs and a huge vocabulary for.....well a man's.....YOU KNOW!!!! *falls over laughing*  You need to read this book. I promise you will enjoy it. Just don't forget to wear adult diapers or at least be prepared to change your panties. It's pee in your pants kinda funny. - sgttibbs

Caution: Read in an area where loud bursts of sudden laughter are welcome. How Hard Can It Be? by Robyn Peterman is a riot of laughs. This chick-lit successfully pulls all the best punches. The story includes a crazy aunt who sees Martians, post-menopausal woman who meet regularly to discuss sex toys, an irritatingly perfect little sister, hard and sexy butts, and a hot alpha hero. The heroine, Rena, loves her job as a CPA crunching numbers but she feels she is missing something in her life. Rena follows Oprah’s advice to visualize and succeed by going after new and exciting dreams to spice up her life. Unfortunately, the spice she finds is a whole lot of trouble. Peterman created characters I could relate to and fall in love with. The friendships are a joy to read. I highly recommend this book to anyone who is in need of a good laugh. I simply could not put this book down. Those who enjoy the Stephanie Plum series will get a kick out of this book.

Rena Gudderschlict is a CPA. Unhappy with her current lot in life she attempts to become the host for the local TV stations weather lady, only to end up with a restraining order against her. Her next attempt is to write a book. Rena joins a writers group which ends up being a group of porno writing senior citizens. She gets conned into carrying jewels and gets arrested for breaking the above mentioned restraining order while still carrying the jewels. At least the cop that arrested her is “her future husband of her dreams"... How Hard Can It Be? is packed full of outlandish and outrageously situations. Robyn Peterman’s imagination is astounding! Monty Python type humor, wise cracking seniors and furry hand cuffs...this hysterical romantic comedy had it all. What an absolutely fun, mindlessly entertain, read. This ARC copy of How Hard Can It Be? was given to me by Netgalley and Kensington Books - eKensington in exchange for an honest review. Publish Date January 17, 2013.

I want to thank my sister Susan for originally loaning me this book, now I own both of Robyn's books, and on pre-order status for all her other books that will be coming out. This is by far the funniest book I have ever read. I was laughing so hard that I almost wet my pants, and woke my husband up while he was trying to sleep. The characters are so cute and funny, and when she cut over to Pirate Dave, OMG! So if you get this book, and you will not regret it, just make sure that you have a bathroom near by, and you are in an area where they won't come take you away. Love this Book!

I have to start by saying a huge thank you to my pal Kally for gifting me this book to read. Robyn has such a dry sense of humor.  I was busting a gut throughout this whole book. And yes I was brought to emotional tears too.  I really can’t wait to see what Robyn has in store for us next.  How Hard Can It Be is the story of Rena trying to find out who she really is.  Rena signs up for a book writing club in hopes to becoming the next big writing super star.  Instead Rena finds herself, arrested, being blackmailed, falling in love, being dumped and well up a creek without a paddle.   But even after all that Rena finds a way to save the day??? Or does she? Super funny!!! And boy howdy the story Rena writes is off the charts... In a totally and completely wrong way.  Disclaimer:  This review is my own opinion and not a paid review.

I have to say upfront that I am not a romance novel reader. Never got into them. But I love good humor. And good writing. So a friend told me about "HOW HARD CAN IT BE?", by Robyn Peterman, because I was looking for an interesting and funny read. I was so wonderfully entertained by Ms. Peterman's silly, sexy, sassy story. The characters are outlandish and their journey is a roller-coaster ride. But the characters have heart and the story is very moving at times. Love and loss and all that good romance novel stuff. I must admit that I thought the sex scenes were well written and pretty steamy. I actually might start reading romance novels now. Thanks, Robyn Peterman, for a gut-busting, raunchy, unique, entertaining story. More please!!!!!

I LOVED THIS BOOK!! This is a laugh-out-loud adventure with a great big heart! It's heroine, Rena is funny and sassy and finds herself in many outrageous and `I can't believe this is really happening to me' situations -- we've all been there! On a mission to be a best selling romance writer, Rena finds a bunch of new friends in a women's writing group. Come to find out her new BFFs are all being blackmailed by the real New York Times Best Selling Author of the group. A natural born `fixer', Rena sets out on a bigger mission to save her friends and bring down the over-botoxed and surgically enhanced author from hell, Evangeline. This is when the book get hilarious, roll on the floor, holding your stomach funny. Rena hatches a plan to feed Evangeline the worst romance novel ever written -- and this book within the book is honestly the funniest part of the whole book! (I want more Pirate Dave, please!!!!) Of course, the romance is hot and steamy, with Rena's love interest Jack! And her family, especially Aunt Phyllis are unforgettably wonderful. Robyn Peterman takes you on a crazy ride in her awesome imagination -- which

A Lilac Wolf and Stuff Review Be prepared to laugh your a** off! The main character decides to take a break from her CPA world and try writing a romance novel. How hard could it be, right? She meets a wonderful group of old ladies, and turns beet red as they talk about sex, s&m, and so on as if they were talking about their grocery list. Then enters the evil Evangeline, who has a huge career as a romance novelist. But it turns out she has stolen everything she has ever written. The only thing she's good at is digging up dirt and using it against people to get her way. Later on meet the neighbor they name "Mr. Asstastic." See if she can actually take down Evangeline with her "pile of confusing, offensive, unreadable s**t." Can she save her new friends and still get the guy? It's a silly book, and it won't be winning the Pulitzer, but god it was fun! I laughed so much. The best part of this book was the absolutely horrible trashy novel the main character writes for the evil...ummm...woman. It's so horrible that all you can do is laugh, especially at all the words for penis she comes up with. "Skin flute, pork sword, love muscle..." Truly a pick-me-up book. But the story, that is included, really is offensive and disgusting, but knowing why she was writing it made it that much funnier.

How Hard Can It Be? is the novel that spawned/begat/birthed Pirate Dave. And it's a delightfully screwy trip through the world of Rena, a CPA who's decided a career-change is in order. After trying to be the new local weather girl, and ending up with a restraining order for her troubles, Rena joins a romance author's writing group. But she soon realizes that the seemingly benign and sweet-looking ladies are really a seething group of porno-writing grannies with a serious axe to grind. And that axe is being sharpened for the freakishly deluded, surgically enhanced and sluuty-outfit wearing Evangeline O'Hara, evil best-selling novelist extraordinaire. Turns out Evangeline is blackmailing all the women in the group into ghost-writing her popular novels, and Rena is her next victim. This is in spite of the fact that Rena's proposed plot is none other than the randy adventures of Pirate Dave. Pretty soon Rena and the other ladies are spewing out the most ridiculous, bawdy, crappy writing of their lives in the hopes of ruining the creepy Evangeline. Reading about Rena's poorly planned and ill-fated adventures is funny and entertaining. Lutheran speed-dating, anyone? Cat-house interior decorating ideas with a million-dollar budget? If you love tongue-in-cheek snark, surgically sarcastic skewering of hateful characters, a lovely romance blossoming in spite of Rena's nutty family, and some really lovely revenge, you'll love this book. I sure did.

When I first started reading HHCIB I thought to myself what on earth am I reading?? Well...it only took me a very few pages to be totally hooked (no pun intended Pirate Dave!)! Robyn wrote this totally funny outrageous zany book that makes the reader LOVE ALL the quirky characters...well except for the EVIL one. Her writing style is brilliant to be able to do this...not many authors could pull off what Robyn did :) I could not wait for times to get to my "escape" (this book) and see what would happen next! I found myself thinking of the characters and what may happen next in the story when I wasn't reading it. Of course whatever my thoughts were on how it would go never matched which made it all the more fun! I do have to say that Mike is SMOKING HOT!! I had to put that in here :) In reviews I never like to give away what goes on in a story because then potential readers have no need to read the book when it's been summarized for them. Suffice it to say...if you want a fun read with laughs AND romance AND are looking for an "escape" then this book is a must. I very highly recommend. Robyn now has me as a faithful follower that's for sure! Not everyone loves all books...me being one of those people...some have to much of this or that or not enough of this or that...it's reader preference. With that in mind...give this book a read! I truly think you'll find yourself thoroughly entertained!! GO FOR IT :) :) Robyn I can't wait for your next one! You go girl!!!!

I absolutely LOVED this book. It had so many laugh out loud moment. A mark of a good book, to me, is when it stays with me. How Hard Can it Be? is one of those books. I have shared with all my book loving friends.

This was a wild read! Love Rena and her porno grannies! I had read Pirate Dave first and found the first three chapters to this initial story. I read it and knew immediately that this was the next book for me. I was not disappointed! I will most definitely read all Robyn Peterman's books!

This is the second book by Robyn Peterman that I have read and loved. The first one I read by Robyn is Fashionably Dead and it is fantastic. Now on to the review for How Hard Can it Be? The main character, Rena Gunderschlict, isn't satisfied with her current accounting profession and her latest career brainstorm is to become a bestselling romance writer. After all, "how hard can it be?" I'm not sure whether I should admit this or not but I could completely relate to Rena. I have certainly had my share of failed career ideas and I am fairly certain that if I were to decide to join a writer group then it would be me that ended up in a group of "porn writing grannies" when I was expecting a group of Jane Austen's...this still makes me laugh. The story follows Rena as she gets to know this great group of women and tries to save all of them from their evil tormentor, Evangeline O'Hara, bestselling author and plastic surgery nightmare. Is the book sometimes ridiculously silly? You bet! Is there an actual storyline that the silliness fits into? You bet there is. Will this book make you laugh out loud and shake your head at its craziness? Yep! Will you love it? Absolutely! This is a book you read for fun and then you're surprised that you can't put it down. The characters are quirky, full of personality, and completely outrageous. It is an 18+ book due to language and content. If you are expecting a clean, no "F" bomb dropping book then skip this one but if you want something that is snarky and laugh out loud funny then you will want to give it a try. Size Matters, Book 2 of Handcuffs and Happily Ever After Series is due to release on December 19, 2013. * I received this book for free in exchange for an honest review.

OMG, Robyn Peterman has to be the most hilarious author I have read. How hard can it be is full of laugh out loud, crazy insane, pee your pants, snort drink out of your nose funny. Although I enjoy her vampire series more than this one, that should not detract from how much I enjoyed reading this story. I don't know where she comes up with this stuff, but this is the kind of friend you want to go out drinking with :) In fact, just pour yourself a glass of wine while you read and you will feel like you are out with friends. Just read it :)

usually like quirky, funny type of books however, this one had way too much swearing for my liking.

Hilariously funny...mixed in with a ton of ewww! All thanks to Pirate Dave! Oh and the very clueless Evangeline O'Hara! Sometimes that's pretty much all you need to write instead of a long winded review. You open a Robyn Peterman book and be prepared to laugh hysterically at all the colorful and quirky characters she is sure to have in each and every book. With a sexy hero thrown in, a cute but spunky female lead and spicy sex...boom! You have yourself one wonderfully funny, sometimes a bit disgusting...lol, but always HEA book! SR

Really enjoyed this. The character is so outrageous that you can't help but love her. Really fun read.

I'm a detailed story teller and even I felt this was just too much. Most of the characters were so exaggerated this read didn't feel like much fun but more of a chore to keep up with everyones Real/nicknames and storylines. I would have rather read all about her and Jack for the entire 282 pages....THAT was the only thing that got me through this book.
