How High The Moon (Collectables)

Editorial Reviews

All Music Guide - Scott Yanow
This spirited Lp which has a jam session feel to it features pianist Randy Weston for the first time with a group as large as a quintet. With assistance from trumpeter Ray Copeland, baritonist Cecil Payne who switches to alto on "Well You Needn't", bassist Ahmed-Abdul Malik and either Willie Jones or Wilbert Hogan on drums, Weston explores three of his originals, the calypso "Run Joe" and four jazz standards including a heated version of the title cut. This album originally recorded for Dawn does not deserve its obscurity.
