Non Vegan Parent cooking for Vegan Children

My child has been a vegan for about 3 yrs now. In my desire to make sure he has a healthy diet and to feed him something, I have purchased many Vegan cookbooks. None of them can even come close to the cookbook 'How it all Vegan' by Tanya Barnard and Sarah Kramer. I live in a small town that doesn't carry specialty food items or many of the basic foods listed in most vegan cookbooks. Besides, I'm a working mom and I don't have the time or desire to fix exotic foods for one child. What I wanted was a cookbook that had simple, easy to prepare, easy to acquire ingredients, for foods that a teenager would like. 'How it all Vegan' is just such a book. I'm not a Vegan, but in preparing these receipes for my child, I've found that they're simple, made with most of the ingredients that I already have in my cupboards and most surprising of all, tasty. Yes, even my husband and I have partaken of the vegan meals. I'm not planning on becoming a vegan, but I'm ordering another 'How it all Vegan' by Barnard and Kramer so my son can take a copy with him to college. I don't want to give up mine.

#1 Vegan book on my list!

I must confess, I am also a lazy vegetarian and new to veganism. So far I have been unable to find a better book on easy vegan recipes that ACTUALLY TASTE GOOD! My boyfriend and I always pull this book out when deciding on breakfast, lunch, and dinner and I have even come to memorize several of the recipes (that's how easy they are!). So far, there isn't a thing I haven't liked! This book covers all the basics on veganism, includes home products and ideas for kids! It's packed with information for such a thin book! I recommend it for all new and veteran vegans!!! Happy eating!!

A must have for the Vegan (and not so Vegan) Kitchen

Ah! my favorite cookbook. It has lots of handy tips and ideas. It's fun, friendly and easy to use. The Shephard's pie is savory and the Balck Bean Salsa is always a hit at parties. Coconut milk is so easy and so good, but the rice milk is not so much fun and not so good. I use this cookbook so much that it's now falling apart (I've had this book for about 2 years). There are lots of quick and easy recipes and great suggestions.

    Fundamentals, plus

Very good book for people looking to enhance their kitchen creativity. Unlike some of the competition, this does not have a lot of weird ingredients you need to struggle to find -- it's chock full of enjoyable and easy recipes, and can help you to find vegan possibilities for nearly any meal. Highly recommended.

    So fun and so helpful!

Trying to become vegetarian or worse yet, vegan in a house of Atkins devotees isn¿t easy. That¿s where I find myself right now, and worse yet, I had no idea how to make vegan meals that were tasty and nutritionally balanced, and raw tofu looked horrible to me. Luckily, How it all Vegan answered my questions and had some answers to questions I didn¿t even know that I had! In a fun, witty way, both authors not only provide very yummy meals, they also give advice on how to keep kids happy on a vegan menu, how to help calm your mother down when you come out of the vegan closet, and so much more! There¿s even recipes for earth friendly cleaning and beauty products that not only benefit you, but the environment, and your pocket book. Most of the food in here is down to earth and easy to find in any grocery store, and the recipes are easy to follow. They even have a suggested list of kitchen equipment. What¿s really fun about this book is that I¿ve been cooking out of it and my meat loving family like what I¿ve been cooking, and my friends who are also omnivores like this food. It¿s a good book to have whether you¿re a vegan, have a friend who is, or just want some new healthy recipes to add to your collection.

Puts the JOY in vegan cooking

This is a book written by two real people using easily available foods. It doesn't try to make up for not using meat, it just focuses on enjoying all of the great foods avaliable without taking animal lives. There is a great variety of types of food, and the personal histories are inspiring.

    Good recipes

This book is great and very easy to follow. There are few exotic ingredients, just regular foods but mixed in different ways. Good importance is given to textures, like 'creamy', etc, which are hard to achieve in vegan cooking sometimes. I recommend.

Great cookbook, even if you're not Vegan.

I bought this book because I loved the punny title 'How it all Vegan.' This book is a hoot. Retro-50's style, punkrock cooks, and tasty, easy recipes. I'm trying to be a vegetarian. I don't want to go vegan, but I'm lactose intolerant, so I wanted to add more vegan recipes to my repetoire. This is a book I keep pulling off my shelf when I need a quick, easy tasty meal.

    Fabulous Recipes!

This is the first vegan book that I bought when I became vegan on April 2000. The recipes are easy, nutritious, delicious and absolutely fabulous. The book also has recipes for homeopathic remedies, pet biscuits, household products and many more. The 'cheesecake' recipes are to die for; I hosted a party once last December and my friends couldn't believe that there were no animal products in three of my ice creams, one fruit bread and one chocolate cake! This book is a must for every vegan or vegan wannabe!
