Overview

The Remarkable discoveries about what drives and sustains successful women leaders.

Based on five years of proprietary research, How Remarkable Women Lead speaks to you as no other book has, with its hopeful outlook and unique ideas about success. It's the new "right stuff" of leadership, raising provocative issues such as whether feminine leadership traits (for women and men) are better suited for our fast-changing, hyper-competitive, and increasingly complex world.

The authors, McKinsey & Company consultants Joanna Barsh and Susie Cranston, establish the links between joy, happiness, and distinctive performance with the groundbreaking model of Centered Leadership.

The book's personal stories and related insights show you the magic that happens when you put the five elements of Centered Leadership–meaning, framing, connecting, engaging, and energizing–to work. They include:

• How Alondra de la Parra built on her strengths and passions to infuse her life with meaning and make her way in the male-dominated world of orchestra conducting
• How Andrea Jung, the CEO of Avon, avoided a downward spiral when the company turned down by "firing herself" on Friday and re-emerging on Monday as the "new" turnaround CEO
• How Ruth Porat's sponsors at Morgan Stanley not only helped her grow but were also her ballast for coping with difficult personal and professional times
•How Eileen Naughton recovered after losing her dream job, landing on her feet at Google and open to a new leadership opportunity
• How Julie Coates of Woolworth's Australia makes energy key to her professional success, with reserves for her "second shift" as wife and mother

How Remarkable Women Lead is both profoundly moving and actionable. Woman or man, you'll find yourself in its pages and emerge with a practical plan for breaking through at both work and in life.

    Inspiring!

Any young woman professional just starting to navigate her way through the world of business should have this book squarely at the tips of her fingers. I am 33 years old, working in a man's world and truly have no women to look up to in my field and occupation right now. This book has shown me that there are people out there who will be my sponsor but that I really do need to put in my work and find them!

A highly recommended read from this woman in a man's world with 10+ years of experience!

    Good for the Professional Woman

I read this book for a Women in Leadership class for my undergraduate studies. It really had some good points about how to manage professional relationships, how to stand out in your field by engaging and strengthening your voice, etc. I wouldn't say anything I read was rather revolutionary, but it put common sense into words. I would recommend it for any professional woman to read at any time during her career. Heck, I'd recommend it to men too, as it definitely defines a "female" style of leadership that men could learn a lot from.

Outstanding Leadership Book for Women at All Levels and All Ages

This book provides a no-nonsense practical approach to leadership for women, written in a manner that we all can use. Based on extensive research, it is very readable. The model is one that I wish I had known about 30 years ago but even so is useful to me now. I am enjoying it so much that I recommended it to my women's mentoring circle. The book is divided into five common-sense sections, starting with finding meaning in our work. It explains differences in how men and women network, and provides good advice on how we can leverage our networks to greater usefulness.

    It's OK

While I am only a third of the way through the book, yet majority of the book consist of stories about what so and so did. I was hoping for something a little more textbook but this book is mostly of "feel good" stories.
