How Spiders Make Their Webs

How Spiders Make Their Webs

by Marshall Cavendish Corporation, J. Bailey

Editorial Reviews

School Library Journal
Gr 3-5Two acceptable series titles. Bailey focuses on how an orb web is created, but explains a variety of other types of spider constructions as well. Chinery includes information about bees' anatomy, life cycle, enemies, nectar gathering, honey production, and related topics. Both books have plenty of full-color photographs and illustrations, so many in fact that the text sometimes seems crowded on the page. Libraries with Claudia Schnieper's Amazing Spiders (Carolrhoda, 1989) and Sandra Markle's Outside and Inside Spiders (Bradbury, 1994) will find little additional information here. Although the focus and organization are different in Sylvia Johnson's A Beekeeper's Year (Little, Brown 1994) and Charles Micucci's The Life and Times of the Honeybee (Houghton, 1995), much of the information Chinery provides is also included in those books.Kathy Piehl, Mankato State University, MN
