Ben Stein can be seen talking about finance on Fox TV news every week. He is known to many as a movie and television personality, but has probably worked more in personal and corporate finance than anything else. He has written about finance for Barron’s and The Wall Street Journal for decades and contributes regularly to the AARP’s Modern Maturity (now AARP: The Magazine). He was one of the chief busters of the junk bond frauds of the 1980s, has been a long-time critic of corporate executives’ self-dealing, and has written several self-help books about personal finance.
How Successful People Win: Using "Bunkhouse Logic" to Get What You Want in Lifeby Ben Stein
How Successful People Win is a serious self-help book using as its central metaphor the life of the cowboy and his behavior as he leaves his bunkhouse. Based upon a lifetime of observation of the successful and how they got that way, Ben Stein suggests that you imitate the determination, inner mobility, activity, flexibility—and the refusal to indulge in self-pity—of the cowboy in order to get what you want out of life. The idea is that if you never indulge in making excuses, refuse to let other people’s hangups get in your way, and move deliberately toward clearly thought-out goals, you will get where you want to go. Just as the cowboy refuses to allow himself to get sidetracked by trivia, so can you refuse to allow life’s inevitable challenges and distractions mar your own success and happiness. The choice is yours.

This is a great book, reall love ben stien and how he writes, because he is simple down to earth and easy to read! I really really love this book and it's helped me through some of the toughest parts of my life. When I was about to loose my role at a fortune 500 company this book helped me grasp a new mentality. WE all want to be successful, but I just didn't realize that the mind set and this helped me purserver in the toughest of times. You HAVE to be a cowboy, you can't just sit there and cry because the watering hole has dried up, you will die, GET BACK ON YOUR HOURSE, Suck it up like a cowboy, and RIDE, keep driving to a new watering hole. THAT'S just life, just like a cowboy! And I tell myself, soemtimes you will get thrown from the horse but you ahve to be a cowboy, you have to just pick yourself back up and dust off your blue jeans and get back in that saddle and ride. Push towards your goal and goals!
This is a very practical, insightful book. Ben does a great job of laying it out. I just wish this book were also an audio version so I could hear his message over and over again.
Erudite and direct in the Ben Stein manner with very a constructive context in which to behave. Typical, intelligent work!
