Editorial Reviews

From the Publisher
"High-interest topics brought to life through readable texts." —School Library Journal
Children's Literature
This picture book sets up the idea that one is reading the book in order to understand how to become an ancient Greek Athlete—and it works. From the first page, where needed athletes can "apply in person at your local gymnasium" to the "interview," where prospective athletes are asked to answer a number of questions in order to be sure that they "have what it takes to get the job," this is an often humorous and consistently well detailed text. Once the young reader gets past the fact that some of the pictures are of naked men (do not worry, they cannot see anything they should not), they will enjoy the vivid nature of the illustrations and, again, the attention to detail in the pictures offered. The juxtaposition of text to picture around each of the book's thirty-two pages will keep young readers' attention all the way through. I am giving this book an enthusiastic thumbs up. 2005, The Salariya Book Company, Ages 8 to 12.
—Jean Boreen, Ph.D.
