A Precious Memento of Yogananda┬┐s Vision

A precious jewel among books, the first volume of The Wisdom of Yogananda Series offers practical, timeless, and heartfelt wisdom to any truth seeker. How to be Happy All the Time examines common misunderstandings about life and the pursuit of happiness. This powerful book is short in size, but profound in context. It offers tangible guidance for finding joy right here, right now. There’s no need to wait for life to provide the right outer ingredients for happiness; it’s already within us. As long as we depend on external ‘things’ for satisfaction, lasting happiness will continue to elude us. Yogananda points out that happiness is a state of mind, not a thing.

If we are to live happy lives, we must first affirm our soul’s innate joy while we cultivate an acute awareness of this inner reality. This book beautifully intertwines a practical road map for functioning in this world while always coming back to the central thread of yoga: we are all manifestations of the divine. Our souls, which are ever-connected with the creative consciousness, are reflections of the ever-joyous Spirit. As Yogananda puts it, our souls are “happiness itself.” It’s as natural for our souls to express its inherent happiness as it is for birds to soar high in the sky.

Yogananda constantly reminds the reader to never lose sight of the inner vaults of happiness. We must first affirm joy as our inherent right before we may live freely and happily. This begins in the mind, which is sometimes riddled with compulsive desires and aversions. If we willfully make up our minds to live fully in the consciousness of happiness, then the world’s outer troubles will gradually dissipate from our awareness. As long as we keep our focus centered on this inner reality, we will discover peace and joy behind every situation life tosses us.

How to be Happy All the Time has inspired me to live more freely within the Self, or soul. Yogananda illustrates the age-old science of yoga in practical ways, making it accessible to a wide spectrum of seekers. This gem of Yogananda’s insight, clarity, and wisdom has fueled my daily efforts to lift my heart from worldly confinements to my innate, divine potential. Yogananda’s vignettes of wisdom offer some of the most grounded, realistic guidance I have ever heard. There’s no doubt that these simple, yet profound insights will be the foundation for future generations to follow.
