This book also reveals, for the first time to Westerners the lost science of Kriya Yoga (which means, "Divine Union"), which is a scientific technique to develop direct experience of God. Yogananda explains this technique, its history, and why it is so effective.I was so mesmerized by it that I had a hard time to put down the book until I had finished reading it. Since then I have reread it a few times. The book, you may say, touched my very soul. After reading the book, I signed up with Self-Realization Fellowship, Yogananda's Los Angeles based spiritual organization, to receive the weekly Lessons that the great saint had left for us before he left his body. What those lessons have done for me, there are no words to express. Whether you are religious or not, you will find this masterfully well-written work touch you in ways that you've not dreamed of. Yogananda orchestrates chapters about the astral realms, great scientists, poets, saints (in India as well as in the West), masters, Gandhi, and others which are both moving and inspirational. highly recommended read.

How to be Happy All the Time examines common misunderstandings about life and the pursuit of happiness. This powerful book is short in size, but profound in context. It offers tangible guidance for finding joy right here, right now. There’s no need to wait for life to provide the right outer ingredients for happiness; it’s already within us. As long as we depend on external ‘things’ for satisfaction, lasting happiness will continue to elude us. Yogananda points out that happiness is a state of mind, not a thing. If we are to live happy lives, we must first affirm our soul’s innate joy while we cultivate an acute awareness of this inner reality. This book beautifully intertwines a practical road map for functioning in this world while always coming back to the central thread of yoga: we are all manifestations of the divine.
