Overview

AUTHOR'S NOTE: This is not a HOW TO SET UP A BASIC ETSY SHOP book. I refuse to charge people for information that you can find for free just by going on Etsy.com and browsing the many How To Articles or even joining an Etsy Newbie Group. There are other Etsy books that charge people for this very, very basic and (worse) free information. If you want to know how to create a username or what a shop banner is and where it goes, this is the wrong book for you.

"In this tough economy, having extra money coming in can be the difference between getting by and falling through the cracks. And if you have crafting skills, you can use them to bring an income that makes a difference to you, just as this author did when both she and her husband found themselves out of work at the same time.

In "How to Create an Income from Home with a Successful and Profitable Etsy Shop" seller Rebecca Galardo (freehippie) tells you exactly what she did to create an income from home with very basic skills. Rebecca tells you how you can - with little to no experience selling items online - make at least a part-time income with your own products.

Rebecca provides you with shortcuts and tips that can make your selling in the handmade market that much easier:

*Increase your customer base
*Keep your creativity flowing
*Create a shop (or shape the one you have) to attract YOUR loyal customer base
*Avoid the BIGGEST and most prevalent mistake that Etsy Shop Owners (even the SUCCESSFUL ONES) make with customers.
*Create lifetime customer loyalty with ease and increase repeat buyers.
*Simple Shipping & Packaging
*Basics in getting your store's name out (marketing) for little to NO money!

People love to buy handmade and no matter what you make if it’s a product people want, you can learn from this book.

Rebecca Galardo started on Etsy from scratch and learned the hard way. As a seller who became a full-time Etsian not from choice but from necessity, she had to make it work.

Now she wants to help other sellers to create the same (or better) success. Because she wants to help others in the same situation she was in, she's priced this book to help ANYONE who wants to make their Etsy shop successful."

This book is an incredible help. As an Etsy shop owner and customer I can attest that I was frustrated until I picked up and applied Rebecca's many suggestions. Sometimes it was hard to admit to myself that I didn't already have it down (like the photography wasn't good enough, the quality wasn't always there, and my shipping practices were inconsistent and costing me too much) but if you go into this book knowing that you're making mistakes and ready to fix them, it's a great eye-opener. Also, Rebecca is very personable. I wrote her asking her opinion about Etsy's updated policies and renewal and she came back with a really long, well thought-out reply.

I think the editing wasn't the best (there are some typos that should have been caught) and I think there should be a section on basic terminology and a conclusion. Still, it was hard not to rate this 5 stars.

As to pmick's one star review: Etsy has 'how to set up a shop' instructions. Why would you want to pay for something you can get for FREE?!?! Just look up their How To section, man, don't PAY someone to tell you what Etsy has help for. And you don't know what an avatar is?? Um, that's not the author's fault.

This book is a great extension of what you can learn on Etsy. The author's tips help you kind of take things in your business further. I like also that everything she tells you is stuff that she did, not just stuff that is supposed to work. Thanks, it helped! I am already seeing more views and my etsy shop was listed on the front page of Google after I changed things around! Cannot get better immediate proof then that.

    Great, helpful book; great price

Great book to make the most of Etsy! I already have an ecommerce site, but still found this book very helpful, since I want to add etsy into my marketing mix.

I'm new to Etsy but do SEO (search engine optimization) for myself, full time job and freelance clients. So, I wanted to offer this tip: if you add Analytics to your Etsy store. You CAN block you own IP from Google Analtyics (that is, visits you make from your own computer), once you set it up to monitor traffic. Simply google "how to remove my IP from google analytics" and you'll find how-to instructions.

This book doesn't tell you much of anything. I wanted to know the mechanics of setting up an account etc. No info. For example - she mentions an avatar. An avatar?? What is it? Don't waste your money.

Very helpful. Not too much fluff. Recommend for those thinking of Etsy selling or for those that already do.

I bought this book from Rebecca's shop. I followed most of the tips (still not looking forward to social marketing) and even asked for advice with my photos. Rebecca's book made a difference, I went from maybe 2 or 3 sales a month, to almost a sale a day (last month I had a little MORE than a sale a day!!). - Velary-Ann Maddox
