Editorial Reviews

Publishers Weekly
In Cornwall’s latest Regency romance (after All the Pleasures of the Season), Marguerite “Meg” Lynton immediately put herself forward when her skittish elder sister, Rose, balks at marrying Nicholas Hartley, duke of Temberlay and the so-called “wickedest rake in London.” Not only is Meg intrigued by his reputation but she also knows that, following her father’s death, their family badly needs the duke’s money. Similarly, Nicholas doesn’t care who he marries as long as his grandmother is pleased enough to save his estate from bankruptcy. He’s thrown for a loop, however, by Meg’s determination to get a child out of their match. As the two begin to fall in love, Nicholas uncovers dangerous secrets linking their pasts. Meg and Nicholas’s chemistry will draw the reader into a fast-paced novel that travels from the English countryside and London to the battle of Waterloo. Great Story.............................................................................................................. Gutsy heroine out to protect her family. Psuedo rake out to protect his family. And enough dysfunctional family members to pass around on both sides. Well written. I'd try this author again.

This book was a disappointment because it ended abruptly with the main characters still needing to talk. It was very unbelievable that the hero was all that and could not express himself enough to explain his actions to his wife which said actions were to benefit her. The female lead really got on my last nerve with her just believeing anything anyone told her, she was so concerned about the other women but never confronting her spouse nor anyone.

This book started off really good, but the plot thinned out and wasnt as good as I expected. An ok predictable read.

I enjoyed reading this and I believe it is the first from Lecia Cornwall I've read. This story tells the tale of a spinster who ends up taking her sister's spot and marries a duke. I really despised some of the bad guys here - which means it is written well because it actually makes you 'feel'. The two main characters are delightful. The sister and the rest of the lead's family make you want to hit your head in exasperation. I truly liked this book. And, I will look forward to reading more of this author.

Ok but not great. Could have been better with the different mysters. Iliked the characters, but nick at first i wanted to hit. The love scences are weak. There is only two love scences and they were married. Also a duke finally falls in love and instead of telling that girl leaves for war while she sleeps. Great guy!,,could have been better

Couldn't easily put the book down and I was smiling when I finished. Really great story with a solid plot and well written characters. The mother is a bit too emotional for my liking, but both Meg and Nick are very likeable. The author had me routing for both separately and together throught the story. My only major complaint is wanting more at the end-perhaps an epilogue after the couple return home, and it might have been nice if Rose had received a bit of a dressing down after her selfish comment about stolen bridegrooms. Definitely a book worth reading. I reserve 5 stars solely for my favorite books that I re-read multiple times. This one is quite close-I widh i could give it 4 1/2 stars.

I read a lot of romance...enjoyed the main characters banter and relationship. I could unerstand the attraction and the ending stayed true to the characters personailites. Moved at a good clip never lagged. Have read a few times and still chuckle over the dialogue. Highly recommend

Overall great read. Loved the characters for the most part. Some of the conflict was a bit weak in that a simple statement from the characters could have resolved much of tye misunderstanndings, but there was great external conflict and a wonderful supporting cast to round the book out. I devoured it!
