The word “caricature” essentially means “loaded portrait”—in other words, it’s a portrait that focuses on the subject’s unique facial features and loads, or exaggerates, them. The degree of exaggeration is a matter of choice; every caricaturist has their own style, some pushing things to extremes and others being very subtle.
Can anyone learn to caricature? I believe so, but if you feel you have little drawing ability I recommend you read a good book on basic drawing skills before attempting the techniques detailed here. Drawn well, caricatures are not only entertaining to others, but they are also hugely rewarding to you as their creator. They are great fun to do and are an ideal creative outlet for budding and experienced artists alike.
