Editorial Reviews

Children's Literature - Kristin Harris
Learning to draw is very empowering and all kids want to do it. In keeping with time-tested format, this book delivers the basic steps for creating images of a variety of animals. The meerkat is the only animal that may be new to young readers; the others are all old favorites. Line drawings detail the steps suggested to create the image of the selected animal. The instructions are provided on a two-page spread. At the bottom of the right page is the completed drawing that has been colored in with some kind of color media; color pencils or markers. True to the art school process, the young artists are encouraged to start with basic geometric shapes as they develop their drawings. A kangaroo has a joey in her pouch while a cute little kitten is snoozing in a shoe. Interesting facts about the animals are included as well. Did you know that koalas eat so many eucalyptus leaves that their fur absorbs the odor? There is an index, glossary of new words and ideas for further reading and web research.
