Editorial Reviews

Publishers Weekly
Without doubt, pregnancy is a life-changing experience, and health writer and mother of two Symons aims to arm expectant moms with the "information, support, and realistic expectations" that make having babies "hurt a whole lot less." While the bright cover, stylized format and retro illustrations make this a standout among the plethora of pregnancy handbooks, its entertainment value is backed by solid, up-to-date medical research; expert advice from consulting editor and obstetrician Leiter; a useful reading and contact guide; as well as suggestions from other moms. A punchy writing style (including the author's humorous, if perhaps overly sarcastic, recommendation for fending off unwanted advice while enjoying an occasional drink or smoke: tell them you'll need another to handle their rudeness) lends a sense of levity not usually seen in this genre. Detailing everything from first "finding out," to coping with cravings, father fears and postpartum blues, this is also the perfect "refresher" for second- or third-time moms who want to browse.
