Meet the Author

I'm a novelist who lives in the beautiful Midwest, writing as Kathleen Kitson. I've been a fan of books and reading as long as I can remember, and there is nothing quite like the feeling of being captivated by wonderful story.I love books with happy endings, books that make me laugh (and sometimes cry--happy tears), books that make me feel warm and cozy inside and stories with a Christmas theme. I'm also big on stories that are set in quaint and unusual settings. I'm also a huge fan of great storytelling in film and television format...here I'm a fan of romantic comedies, action adventure, mystery and science fiction. (Yep, my interests are all over the map.)The Ivy Stratton & The Time Machine series is based on an idea I had about 7 years ago. At the time, I just wasn't able to devote time to telling the story properly. But the plot and the characters kept popping back up, and I continued to take notes and record plot details when I could. Finally, this year I decided to sit down, make some time, and write it down. With this series, I wanted to focus on the story and just write and share a fun tale of what happens when a woman inherits a time machine. The main character, Ivy Stratton, is at a stage in her life when she's just entered her thirties and even though she's comfortably employed and has a nice social life, she's starting to wonder if she made wrong decisions in terms of relationships, employment, personal goals, and things like that. Just as she's starting to feel "stuck," her life is turned upside down when she inherits a time machine, and along with it, a mandate to use it in a certain way. The story is a convergence of so many things I love--fun characters, romance, mystery, and yes, even a little science-fiction (because you can't have a time machine with out sci-fi!) and I'm having a blast writing!Because the Christmas reading season is upon us, I wanted to offer you a taste of the characters in advance, so I've written a Christmas novella of about 20K words called How to Host a Holiday. Christmas is my favorite holiday and I am a huge fan of Christmas themed books and movies, so I was really excited to get cozy at my desk, turn on some Christmas music, make some hot cocoa and imagine it was Christmas time--even though it was blazing hot outside! How to Host a Holiday is a funny story about Ivy's plans to host the perfect Christmas dinner party, and you'll get to meet some of the pivotal characters of the series, including Ivy and her best friends Stella and Giuseppe. If you get the chance to check out any of my books, I'd love to hear from you! I have a full time job outside of writing, and I'm doing my best to stay disciplined to write in my (almost non-existent) free time, but I love taking breaks to hop online and stay connected via social media, so please find me and say hello!P.S. If you have any suggestions for outstanding Christmas books or movies, please let me know. I'm always on the lookout for new Christmas stories to read and watch!

A sweet and simple holiday short story that has all the trimmings for a great little holiday novella - great characters, a snowy scenery and mishaps and mayhem!  From the beginning I fell in love with Ivy our main character who begins the novella dreaming up her perfect Christmas and waking up to things being just a little different from her dreams.  She is surrounded by great neighbors and friends, who all join her for a Christmas party and feast.

    Simple, but well done!
I really liked this book. I don't know why I liked it so much. It was simple nothing really spectacular or thought provoking. It just really clicked with me! I guess I liked it because it felt real. Like this could have been me about 25 years ago. It was just a short story about a young woman hosting a Christmas party for her friends. This story could have been about anybody.

The character development was great! I really liked Ivy. I thought she had a great personality. I liked all her friends and even the guy she was suppose to win the heart of. I thought the author did a fabulous job!

This whole story kinda reminded me of when I lived in Savannah GA for a while. There was a big hurricane coming through, and in Savannah - you don't evac., you throw "Hurricane parties"! So I went to my first hurricane party! There were candles everywhere (because the elec. was out) there was lots of food. Someone was playing the Ukelele and everyone was dancing and singing. While outside the boarded up windows the hurricane was wreaking havoc with the apartment complex.
Nothing like that happens in this book! but the elec. does go out and they still manage to have the party and have fun!
    Here's a few lines I just loved -

"I am waiting for someone to develop a shopping app that allows you to choose your groceries, pay online, and have them delivered to your doorstep. When that happens, I'll make gourmet meals everyday." Ha! Me too!

"Despite the ice storm, the power outage, the uncooked turkey, the surprise guest, and an argument with Giuseppe, I've dreamed of a Christmas like this my entire life." LOL isn't she adorable?

    THE ALL-IN-ALL -
All in all this was a great little story! I don't remember any swearing, and there is no sex, so - very clean. It was fun, interesting, quirky, has great lines and a great cast.
