Editorial Reviews

Library Journal
Schilling lets the reader in on his unusual life as an international artist and a dentist. His work for the Holland America Cruise Line takes him to places like Venice and Stockholm while, as a dental missionary, he has found himself sketching in rural Kenya and in Nunligran, Russia. Schilling's tales of journaling on the road are entertaining, and his tips on dealing with rain and insect attacks are useful. Woods offers a more workmanlike approach to keeping a sketchbook. He dispenses good advice on choosing the right papers and drawing materials for working while out and about. His chapters are organized by subject, e.g., interiors, people, historic architecture, and bridges. Both books are recommended, Woods for novice sketchbook keepers and Schilling for artists who have already tasted the road. Copyright 2003 Reed Business Information.
