Editorial Reviews

Children's Literature - Heather Christensen
This beginning reader gives simple instructions for making bubbles. Part of Capstone's "Hands-On Science Fun" series, the book includes materials, directions for the bubble formula and for a giant wand, and a scientific explanation on how bubbles work. With two to three sentences per page, the design is perfect for new readers. Color photographs illustrate the steps and help students understand the text. Because this is a beginning reader book, there are no extra activities or science projects, nor does it follow the scientific method. Instead, the book focuses on one science-based activity that is both easy to read and execute. Most six to seven year olds can follow the directions in this experiment with minimal adult assistance. Information on the word count, grade, and "early-intervention level" is included for teachers. The book concludes with a glossary and very short resources page (two books). Students are encouraged to access Capstone's website for more projects, games, and for Internet-based resources. Reviewer: Heather Christensen
