Editorial Reviews

Children's Literature - Heather Christensen
Full of spooky, creepy, and even some downright disgusting ideas, this addition to Edge Books' "Halloween Extreme" series will help readers get their homes and classrooms ready for Halloween. Each project uses common craft and household items like construction paper, trash bags, old pantyhose, and milk jugs. Each project features a materials list, detailed step-by-step instructions, plenty of color photographs, and tips with alternate ideas for additional spookiness. Some of the projects are standard Halloween fare, such as adding dry ice and water to a cauldron to make an eerie witch's brew, or floating olives in a dark liquid to simulate eyeballs. However, some are pure originality, like a witch head made from an old plastic milk jug. One project, entitled "Intestines in a Jar," uses old pantyhose stuffed with newspapers, red Jell-O, and salsa to make a disgusting adornment that will gross out all but the most iron-stomached. This would be a perfect book for kids and teachers looking for inexpensive yet effective ways to decorate for their next Halloween party. Reviewer: Heather Christensen
