Editorial Reviews

School Library Journal
Gr 3-6-- Another success from the author of How to Make Pop-Ups (Morrow, 1988). In a similar format, Irvine introduces new ideas for similar creations. Explicit, step-by-step instructions, accompanied by helpful black-and-white line drawings, are easy to follow. Each project includes suggestions for variations that will encourage children to think creatively. Readily accessible materials are listed in the introduction, as well as definitions of symbols and terms and tips for beginners. Measurements are provided in both metric and imperial systems. Many of the ideas combine paper folding, paper cutting, drawing, and decoration, and feature sliding parts, turning wheels, springs, and snapping rubber bands. They range from simple animal faces to more complicated three-dimensional masks and stage props, tempting novice and accomplished pop-up artists alike. An inviting combination of clear design and clever ideas that is hard to resist. --Joy Fleishhacker, New York Public Library
Carolyn Phelan
The author of "How to Make Pop-ups" offers another treasury of ideas and directions for making three-dimensional paper constructions with parts that move, slide, snap, and, yes, pop up. The undeniable fascination that children have for pop-up books will find a creative outlet here. With simple supplies readily available in the average school desk, and the step-by-step instructions and illustrations in this book, kids can make a wide array of projects, from masks and miniature stages to greeting cards. Teachers will want to check out the "Giant Pop-ups for Displays" section. An appealing craft book with the detailed, practical approach necessary for successful projects.
