Overview

New York telecommunications expert Jessica Bloom has never quite gotten things right. She's failed at relationships, and only believes herself to have moved ahead at work due to dumb luck. Her fortunes change when she flies to Madrid on an acquisitions deal -- but wakes up married to a matador instead! While she's held a burning attraction to her handsome business adversary for months, she never dreamed she'd make such an enormous split-second decision. Surely, this is a mistake they can both get undone? Her new husband, however, has plans to the contrary...

Fernando Garcia de la Vega runs a telecommunications firm poised for a US takeover. What Fernando doesn't expect, is its beautiful International Division head also capturing his heart. Descended from a long line of bullfighters, Fernando stands to inherit the family's lucrative estate, if he meets the criteria in his grandfather's will and marries by age thirty-two. Yet, a marriage of convenience was something Fernando was loathe to consider... until now. When the fates conspire to put the right woman in the right place -- at the right time, how can Fernando deny his destiny? His only problem lies in convincing Jessica to remain his bride.

Kirkus Reviews
An American woman traveling to Madrid for an acquisition deal wakes up to find herself married to her dramatic and attractive Spanish colleague; she must decide whether she will seek an annulment or give in to her new husband's pleas to stay married. The second novel in Baird's Girls on the Go series turns the classic romance plot amusingly inside out, starting with the marriage, then the presentation of the new bride to family, complete with a claim of a pregnancy that doesn't exist, and finally to the courtship that creates the happy relationship. Fernando Garcia de la Vega, heir to the beautiful land that supports his family as well as to the talent of his family bullfighting legacy, will lose the property left to him by his grandfather if he does not marry and produce an heir within the next year. Still, he insists that his impromptu wedding to Jessica Bloom was not mercenary but the hand of fate and opportunity. Jessica, supported by phone calls to her sensible friend Evie in New York, jumps to invalidate the wedding before the paperwork is finalized. But she's lulled into delaying her plans by Fernando's mother, European adventure and Fernando's dreamy accent and sexy smile. A series based on the idea of passion in exotic locales needs to evoke the beauty of the location much more strongly than this novel does. Descriptions of the thrill of being in the Spanish countryside are as lukewarm as those of the romantic chemistry and sexual encounters between the couple. The lack of grand drama also makes it less believable that Jessica--a successful, single businesswoman--would give up her own ambitions for a bit of romance. Unremarkable contemporary romance, cleverly plotted but vague and implausible in the details, and lacking the spark that makes travel romance sizzle.

A 120 page free story of a 28 yr old American acquisitions executive and a Spanish techno company owner who get married after dinner and sangria. Then she turns into an unsure emotional wreck that can't make a decision based on facts or feelings. Poor, poor, pitiful her whose BFF showing up to break them up for her? own good is the excuse she needs. Spain, the hacienda, and other characters in story make this worth reading if you skim over the poot little girl over her head waiting for someone to lead her by the hand parts. All of this author's leading ladies in the stories so far are business owners or executives who are emotionally bereft, and can't make an intelligent life decision. An excerpt of the story of the BFF and her on the job adventure out west is included. Good luck.

It was okay. Very choppy and has a lot of "flowery bulls**t" that slows down the story. I read most of it, but never really became interested in it and once Evie flew to Spain to help Jess, Jess became a sniveling brat and I ended up skimming the rest.

Good reading material.

Cute, short, predictable read. Heroine is not that "strong" of a person for a 28 yr old.
