Library Journal - Library Journal
Reader's Digest has published some remarkably good art instruction books (see The Ultimate Watercolor Course). Harrison, an artist working in all painting media, and specializing in pastels, makes good use of Cornish's stunning photographs. Early chapters provide good advice on working from photos, choosing materials, and mastering watercolor techniques. Sixty photographs cover a wide range of landscape subjects in the United States, Europe, Britain, and the tropics. Each photo occupies a full page. On the accompanying page is a step-by-step watercolor demonstration, which beginners can copy and advanced artists can use as a starting point. Unfortunately, the step-by-step illustrations are rather small. Hardbacked and spiral bound, this sturdy, quality volume is highly recommended. It's a fine companion to the encyclopedic Landscape Problems and Solutions: A Troubleshooting Handbook. Copyright 2006 Reed Business Information.
