Each season of parenting has its own special demands with the teenage years being the most challenging. At one level, teens are constantly saying, "Leave me alone! Let me go!" But a recent survey by the National Center on Addiction and Substance Abuse (CASA) at ...

Overview

Parenting may well be the most demanding task a person can face and one for which most of us feel unprepared. Each season of parenting has its own special demands with the teenage years being the most challenging. A widespread temptation among parents is to cave in to their teens and let them go their own ways. This seems the way to peace. But it isn't. At one level, teens are constantly saying, "Leave me alone! Let me go!" But a recent survey by the National Center on Addiction and Substance Abuse (CASA) at Columbia University noted that, when asked, teenagers say they wish their parents were more involved in their lives. Teenagers want their parents to talk with them about sex, drugs, alcohol, and violence. While they might never admit it to you, your teenagers desperately need you and want you to take an active role in their lives.

The editors of Christian Parenting Today hear the fears and questions of parents daily. In this book they have joined with the editors of Campus Life magazine to bring together five highly respected experts who have a heart for teens and their parents. As you read these questions, answers, and suggested action steps, along with quotes from teens themselves, you will realize that you aren't alone. You'll also be encouraged by the words of well-known Christians including Jackie Joyner Kersee, Ann Graham Lotz, and Chuck Colson, as they tell of the positive difference their parents made in their lives. You'll see your situation with new eyes. Your courage will be renewed, your level of hope increased. Parenting is serious business. But that doesn't mean parents always have to take themselves too seriously. To that end, the book includes 15 cartoons by John McPherson that will help you and your teens lighten up and enjoy this incredible time in the life of your family.
