Editorial Reviews

Children's Literature - Scott S. Floyd
Every college bound student needs some guidance about the type of exams they will face in college. What better source then a professor? Beginning with organization, the reader is led through the important steps of preparation. Motivation, concentration, time management, and memory improvement are all major factors in preparing for exams. Ideas and exercises are offered to help strengthen study skills-identify bad habits by keeping a wasted time log, establish regularly scheduled study times, set reasonably attainable goals, and use mnemonics and creative associations. Accompanying the ideas are case studies of students who Orr has worked with over the years. He cautions that once you are prepared for the exam, you must take it-control your nerves, manage your time, and be familiar with the exam type. This text is very well laid out. The only draw back may be the British spelling (Orr is an Australian) and the slightly different twist to the language which can at times be distracting. For those truly interested in solving their high school and college exam blues, this book is a good choice.
