Overview

When Captain Gabriel Drake earns a royal pardon and comes home to Cornwall, he discovers the father with whom he hoped to reconcile has died, along with his older brother. Gabriel suddenly finds himself elevated to lord of the manor with the added complication of being responsible for his 5 orphaned nieces.

He's also obliged to wed, bed and breed an heir on a well-born lady as soon as possible to secure the barony or it will be devolved to the Crown. Since Gabriel's pardon for piracy requires him never to enter the city of London again, he can't pursue a bride in typical marriage mart fashion. And the fact that he only wants Jacquelyn Wren, the bastard daughter of a courtesan who couldn't possibly satisfy the King's requirements to become his baroness, means he'll have her any way he can.

To protect the orphans in her charge, Jacquelyn has to see the new baron suitably wed to a lady of quality. A few lessons in courting should do the trick nicely. But she forgot one thing.

What a pirate wants, a pirate takes…

I thought the beginning was somewhat confusing, but am so glad I

I thought the beginning was somewhat confusing, but am so glad I stuck with it. I loved the unique storyline! The nieces are a joy as is their uncle learning about his new role in their lives. I loved the H/h and the secondary character's are written so richly and entertaining, I couldn't stop reading. I loved how Jack became known as Lyn! The last 1/3 of the book, had me wanting to read ahead, because the suspense was more than I could stand. This is a wonderful, unique story and is a must read. I bought the bundle, book one is not connected to the last 2. Books 2 and 3 are connected and I would suggest you read them in order-How To Please A Pirate and the last is How To Vex A Viscount. The author includes an epilogue, but I wished it was further in the future. (ljb)

    fun read

I've read most of Mia Marlowe's book's and where I didn't find this one of my favorite it wasn't the worst book I've read either.

The hero "Gabe" is likable enough but it's hard to like "Jack" the heroine.
The storyline is unique and well written, with Gabe trying to make amends to his father and coming home too late and finding a home ran down, father dead and nieces running a muck.

I gave the book 4 STARs because of the brilliant writing and over all storyline. One character that I couldn't relate to should bring down the whole review.
And for only 2.99 it's still a fun read.

Wish I had never bought this one

I have enjoyed many Marlow books, however the first few chapters of this one are so ridiculous I can't make myself continue. As if a house keeper would constantly argue and critize the new Lord of the keep she has just met. Then proceeds to tell him what he is to do, keeping in mind it is the first day they have met. Absolutely lacking in building the storyline. Sorry but this is a huge disappointment.

    A Definite read!

Had me sitting on the edge of my seat anxious to see how it ends. I couldn't put it down and the love scenes were steamy.
